Anyone else thinking Man City might do to us what Swansea are doing

    Looking certain to set a record score for the cup final victory

    Also I know the ref was correct in Sending off the Bradford keeper but couldnt he in this case have just given a pen and a yellow

    I see your point but you admitted it was the right decision. We complain about consistency, its a shame for the lad but you can't change the rules because it's a final.

    I don't actually agree with the rule re the sending off. Presumably he got sent off for the old 'denying a goalscoring opportunity' chestnut. So a penalty isn't a goalscoring opportunity? By that reckoning a goalkeeper will almost always get sent off every time they mistime a challenge. Stupid rule that has become terribly misinterpreted over the years.

    Look how the game changed at Newcastle when Steele was sent off on 44 minutes at 0-0, when he didn't even make contact with the Newcastle player in the first place.

    It's the League Cup Final at Wembley and they are a fourth tier team 3-0 down. Would anyone have complained if he had just given a yellow?

    With regards to the referee

    Interesting he decided to send off the Bradford goalie. A couple of years, or so, ago when Villa played Manchester United in the League Cup Final, a Villa player clean through on goal was brought down by Vidic (I think). Result? A penalty to Aston Villa and Vidic received a yellow card. Heaven forbid that referees would ever be accused of being biased towards bigger clubs, though(!):)
    I hope that we get in the faces of the City players more than Bradford have managed against Swansea. The occasion seems to have got to the Bradford lads, but it's still been a magnificent achievement to get there in the first place.

    The referee gets assessed every game, and would have been down marked if he hadn't sent Duke off.

    That was my view as well

    I actually think Football should take a look at Rugby and in cases like this award a penalty goal - there is no doubt Dyer would have scored had he not fallen over the keeper but I also dont think it was a premeditated foul Dyer was just too quick for him A goal to Swansea and leave the keeper on the pitch would be a much better outcome

    I think this could also apply in all other cases when a red would be shown for denying a goalscoring oppertunity - it seems a much better penalty than sending the player off especially if the foul is outside the box

    The Bradford goalie HAD to be sent off, then how come Joe Hart earlier was allowed to stay on the field and not even receive a yellow card?

    In Hart's case the Chelsea player wasn't on goal but I do think he should have got a card

    But if we are applying consitency both Vidic in that game and Hart today should have seen red but they play for big sides

    Surely a more suitable punishment would have been to let the keeper stay on and shoot Adrian Durham instead

    I agree

    But he didn't. With the example I used earlier, Vidic by the letter of the law, should've been sent off against Villa, but he didn't. Which is why I believe the 'letter of the law' is only applied by referees on selective occasions.

    Don't you know the rules. The Referee is the MAIN man. Everything revolves round him not Players,not fans. They are the make all and do all of the Match. They are that up their own arse they would never dream of giving the Goalie a yellow. Get the ****er off. He will now think he has let his mates down. Bradford already up against it lose a lad off the field who has played his guts out. The game is dead and buried straight away. All the enthusiasm and money down the drain. We will always remember the Final with the Ref sending the goalie off He will give no thought to the decision because he is an Elite Referee. And a total ****er

    I'm sure whoever is selected to referee our game against Manchester City will not be influenced towards the home team in any way.:)

    The referee's job is to apply the laws that FIFA give them. It is a shame common sense cannot be applied, but as someone else mentioned, he has applied the law correctly in this case. There is inconsistency of course, but this referee got it right I'm afraid. The scoreline, the fact it was Bradford and Matt Duke, is completely irrelevant in the laws of the game.
