There is something I want but in the UK they cost £325. Online from the States I can get em for $290 so half price.

Does anyone know what happens wi Customs for goods bought online?

Yup. Six things. 3 times I have had to pay duty, and 3 times I've got away with it.

    Many times.

Beware of compatibility issues if it's electronic!

Anything else no problem whatsoever. Duty for 95%+ of domestic items is (approx.) NIL + VAT, so budget 17.5% as a likely surcharge which will be collected by the courier before release of the goods. You will find the likes of UPS & DHL nearly always come with a charge attached, whereas surface or airmail usually tend to slip through.

Touch wood, never had a single problem.

So the website says UPS to UK/Canada 'shipping charges will be emailed to the buyer for agreement prior to shipping'. Does this mean duty will be calculated and added to the shipping charge. If so easy peasy lemon squeezy :)

Bought from amazon.com many times also from ebay in US, along with some other sites.

Only once had to pay any duty - was for a DVD box set that cost me approx £30 but wasn't availabe here anyway and even if it had been would likely have been £50.
If you do have to pay any duty then you'll have to pay the postman/post office when you collect.

Likelihood at that price is that you will have to pay duty - see if the vendor can put on the customs label that it's a gift, you might get away with paying any duty.

If it's from ebay then email the vendor to ask what the shipping costs would be - I got an NFL shirt bidded for on ebay and even with the shipping it was only £35 which was less than I'd have paid from a UK site.

    No

They can't add the duty over there, it will only get added once it gets over here, so you won't know for certain until you get it.

Alternatively, if you know someone going to the US see if they can buy for you.

As far as I know duty on said item should be 17.5% so on approx £150 should be £26.25 wi total cost of £176.25. Still makes em a helluva lot cheaper than the £325 that's MRP over here

    Yeh, a couple of books.

Principles of Brazilian Soccer and The Soccer Coaching Bible (NASCA).

Got them cheaper than I could have if I had bought them in the UK.
For some strange reason if a book costs you $20 in the USA our book shops want to charge you £20.
Not had to pay any duty.
