For the last few days -actually since a firefox and avg upgrade about one in 3 times I try to post or read I get a waiting for barnsleyfc.org.uk message and it just sits there. If I stop and retry it works. Not noticed it on other websites though

I dont get the same if I use IE - just trying to find out if its something specific to my computer - suspecting AVG9 as I am also getting some issues with outlook since I upgraded

    I don't use firefox

but could that be a problem with the site server because in IE It hangs something terrible when I try clicking anything on here, same as your firefox its about one in three times

Exactly same probs since the last firefox upgrade. Not just on here either. Have stopped using and gone back to safari.

    Thats strange

I've been experimenting with Firefox and IE and I have no problems with IE on here at all - other than sometimes a delay whilst the server sorts itself out

It seems my firefox cant handle the delays - if the server responds quickly all is well if its a bit slow firefox gives up and just sits there you have to stop and restart to get it to go again.

Think I've eliminated AVG as the culprit as I disabled the plugin and it makes no difference

Looks like its the firefox last update - see dyketykes comments below. Hmmm

    AVG

I don't know if this is related, but I had to give it up when version 7 was released. It just caused so many issues with system slow downs.

Have you tried a non image skin version? I do wonder if the problems people have with speed is because all the bloody avatars and images in signatures we have.

The more images/assets on a page the more time it will take to download a page and if the sites that are hosting these images on are running slowly it will give the effect that this site is slow. I have all this switched off at all times and I hardly ever find the site slow.

Version 9 claims to fix them

So far it seems thats true but I have had some strange effect with outlook

It seems to struggle with hibernating the pc and then restarting on a different network - eg hibernate at work and unhibernate at home or vice versa. Outlook itself blamed an avg9.dll which I disabled this morning so we will see what happens

Not sure if that means my email antivirus scanner isnt working though - AVG says it is but I havent a tame virus to email myself to check

I still leave avatars but gave up on signatures ages ago

That doesnt explain delays when posting a message. Its definitely my firefox anyway as it doesnt do it with IE for me at all
and this only started a few days ago - strangly shortly after firefox upgraded itself.

Looks like its back to IE for a bit until firefox fix whatever it is they broke
