Missed it, just wondring what he had to say. Did he apologise for the appalling tactics & lack of counter-tactics.
You don't have to be a 'tactical genius' to realise that if you pull everyone back for a corner you have no outlet, that's if you manage to win the ball in the first place. Now to answer your Question about whatis my problem anyway. I sat & watched a game yestdi where we were very fortunate not to be at least 3 goals down by half time. Against a team who were no more than spirited. In past poor games this season, I've been able to look back upon periods within the games where we have played well. yesterday there was absolutley nothing.
Tell me how Shuker & Devaney are vital to our.. defending a corner. withn those 2 left uu for corners, the other side wouild have to at least leave 3 men back leaving us 3 less to mark in our box. Their is no positive side to Ritchie's horrible tactic
But the 'game plan' never works & never has so... why not abandon it? My point is it does not work its crap.
a simple attempt to explain your point In the top picture we have everyone back and they have left two back which is the usual scenario. In the lower picture we have left two players up the pitch and so they have sent two extra men back to mark them and stop us clearing the ball to them. This is the usual case if a team leaves two up front.
[img=http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/2411/f7hv.jpg]
The benefits are doing this are clear. 1. You have an outlet (or two) 2. They dont have as many players to aim at in the box 3. There are less players in the box meaning that the keeper can come to claim the ball without having to fight through loads of players. 4. With less defenders in the box we wont have the problem that we often have where our players just assume somebody else is going to pick a player up. If there simply arent as many players then you can stick to marking your man easier.
The disadvantages? 1. Less defenders to get an head on the ball. But this is countered by the fact there are also less opposition players to do the same.
In short it just makes sense to at least leave someone up doesnt it?

RE: Tell me how Shuker & Devaney are vital to our.. I agree, I prefer to see one or 2 players left up 1. It provides a potential outlet when you clear the ball rather than it coming back in. 2. Less opposition players in the box to get on the end of the corner. Mind you - there are a number of top managers who seem to prefer to bring everyone back - I think Wenger and Allerdyce do it.
my services are available to ritchie and the lads if they provide me with a fancy pointer so i can draw arrows on the telly. ive always wanted to do that
RE: Tell me how Shuker & Devaney are vital to our.. Shuker, especially should be left on the half way line when defending corners. He probably wont even get near the ball but once we manage to clear it (at times we forget how to even do this) he can be on the defenders shoulders and put them under some pressure.
