my mum's been done twice for speeding in the last 6 months, and wants a speed camera thingy that'll beep to warn her..</p> I've looked into it and found some that have a subscription charge (not interested) and some that only beep if the laser is detected to be pointed at you (bit pointless) and to top it all off, I only want to pay about £50...</p> anyone got any suggestions?? </p> (other than - "tell her not to speed anymore!" )</p> tia.</p>
Just get her a thingy that beeps every 10 mins or so. Tell her it detects speed cameras - she'll never know the difference. I think they are called "dummy speed camera detectors" or something like that.
Won't get much for that money. The best ones are the GPS units, but they have subscriptions. They are for the usual yellow roadside cameras. Laser detectors are going to be made illegal IIRC, additionally, they only work if the laser hits the unit, so unless you cover the car in sensors, it won't work. Finally, if the alarm goes off, it's too late to slow down anyway, you've already been zapped.
I'm sure Argos do one for about £90. Failing that M and P do one for £99. It's for bikes, but I'm sure it can be used in a car.
Carphone Warehouse do a Garmin sat nav for £99. Speed camera locations can be added by uploading from the internet. The sat nav beeps loudly when you are in the vicinity of a fixed camera and will keep beeping until you slow down to the correct speed. I have one in my car it's superb...!! Oh aye its a sat nav too even directs you to the nearest shops ATM's and car parks..!!
RE: its strange that i used to have a thing on my dash board and it told me how fast i was going on the side of the road were post that said 30 mph and things like that i never got done for speeding cant understand it
Lynz i suggest You spash out on this for your mothers Xmas prezzie before she loses her licence.</p> This is the best in the business, </p> http://www.snoopers-r-us.co.uk/index.php/cPath/106</p> failing that look for Road Angel on ebay and you might pick a bargain. </p>
RE: its strange that Did it also warn you of the big yellow boxes on poles that flash? I got fined £60 and had 3 points for driving 38mph in a 30mph zone.
We all speed from time to time Today, the area near mine, which is a 40mph limit, was nice and clear. I decided to have some fun, went flying round a corner...FOUR traffic cars sat at the side of the road waiting for a funeral to get under way, oops! Oh, and I returned half an hour later just as the funeral car was pulling in, so I didn't interrupt anything!
The one I use is Drivesmart. Its a bit of an ugly box, but it works very well, and has the benefit of lifetime free camera database updates. The company also make software upgrades available to download, to make the functionality better from time to time, and recently added an extra feature whereby it will monitor your average speed throughout the range of a set of specs average speed cameras, and warn you only if your average speed exceeds the limit - not sure of any other unit that does that, although there aren't too many specs sites locally yet. They are £189.00 brand new from here http://www.drive-smart.co.uk/acatalog/index.html or there's one currently on auction on ebay here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Drive-Smart-S...ryZ14935QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
