You might find a lot of chopped-up women in the Perpignan area. Perpignan is the centre of the universe.
I taught in Perpignan last Easter. It's a nice area, amazingly laid-back lifestyle. There's Barcelona about 2 hours away by train. Montpellier, Carcassone and Nimes are close too. The mountain areas are lovely and the people are cool. Perpignan itself is rather small but there are nice bistros and cafés but not much in the ways of bars or night-life.
Not very good in respect of beaches. Banyul, Argeles -Sur-Mer not very interesting either. Having said that enjoyed me sen several years ago. Never seen as much rain in my life. I like France though
Argeles is OK. Perpignan is an absolute hole, though. Run down town centre, didn't find a single good eaterie in the place. One decent hotel and it's 2 miles walk out of the centre (or a 20 Euro taxi ride at foreigner rates). One good bar called Crystal Palace. The train station is the only redeming feature - a large, dominating old building of pleasant and interesting architecture. And also the quickest route out of Perpignan, which is even more worthy of commendation. The missus lived there for three months and couldn't get out quick enough.
St Cyprien,Canet,Argeles all good beaches plenty of bars but usual tourist resorts,Collioure worth a visit.A couple of top vineyards at Trouillas,Chateau Mas Deu and Chateau Casanove, great drive up to the Ski resorts and beyond to Andorra
Best country I've ever lived and worked in. Friendly people, great food and wine, laid back attitude. It's great.
