Serial ATA faster than parralel, special fittings and often special Mains leads available, most new mother boards will be SATA or SATA and IDe combined.

Fastest is WesternDigital Raptor £119 from Maplins but only 70 something gig but a magical boot drive with a miniscuole seek time,

Ar, Mr Jax, just the man.

Do you happen to know where I can get a SATA power lead (cable that goes from hard drive to motherboard) that DOES NOT have a molex lead like the one below?

they normally go from HD to PSU not yer MOBO!

The drive should have a standard power socket on too - use that.

Fair enough with the motherboard stuff (never installed one before), but the hard drive doesn't have a molex connector.

Tha's got it all arse about tit

You need 2 connectors to wire up a SATA drive.
Data cable between mainboard and drive - replaces IDE ribbon cable and looks like this:

And a power connector exactly like the one in your post. This pic showe it better:

As you can see, the Molex connector is a FEMALE, not a male. So the chain goes Molex plug from computer's PSU goes into adaptor cable, then the black plug on the other end connects to the drive.

I've got one of each lying about - make me an offer if you're struggling to obtain.
