Anyone know much about copyright?

Say I translated something on which the writer had waived copyright, but someone else had published their own translation (which I haven't seen and which is no doubt much better than mine, but still).

Would I be able to distribute it freely? Or would I need permission from the author. Or what?

 

its it re-written in your words dont think the author can have much say unless its blatently copied word for word
