I've been well and truly fecked by Tesco - been at my mates for a few days and haven't had access to wi-fi, so been using my mobile internet (500mb limit). Woke up this morning to find 4 texts (5 minutes apart) from Tesco. 2 of which told me I had 50mb left, the third said I had used up all my data and the fourth said my account had been suspended. Managed to get online on someone elses phone and have checked my account - £50 over the limit, and started being billed at 1pm yesterday lunchtime. I was told on the phone I can only unblock my account by topping up an additional £25 (this now means November's bill stands at a whopping £85), and that this won't unblock it for 4-6 hours.

When I questioned the lack of any warning about reaching the limit, the man on the phone said it wasn't a service they would guarentee and that sometimes the texts won't come through at all, let alone late. I don't agree with this - I have ALWAYS been given notice so I have known to slow right down on any internet usage, but as I hadn't received any messages, I assumed I was fine to keep using the net.

Does anyone know if there's anything I can do about this?

It's definitely not something they'll guarantee in the Ts and Cs as they can't guarantee 100% coverage, congestion on the Network etc.

Their argument will be if you've used it, you'll have to pay for it, mate.

I accept I'll have to pay for it (begrudgingly!) but I'm more ****ed off at the fact I now don't have a phone I can use for 4 - 6 hours and I'm in Brighton trying to get back home!

That little lot shouldn't have taken up anywhere near 500Mb mate, it's only general browsing at the end of the day. My guess is that it would be apps auto-updating etc. The only advice I can maybe give you is that you make sure you only update apps when in a Wi-Fi zone.

Internet access is expensive as you've found out but £50 seems a lot. I get 500 mb but o2 are pretty good and warn me when I'm near my limit

I am on unlimited. Glad I am now I have seen this thread. Could so easily happen, I hadn't even considered my apps auto-updating when I am outside of wifi.

There's no way you could have used that amount of data. Three tried telling me that I had gone over my 2500mb allowance in 3 weeks last month - I usually use about 800 to 1200 in a month. I basically complained to everyone I could and put a formal complaint in. I then told them id be off from the network ASAP if they didn't sort it, and they credited my account to the same amount that I had been charged. One thing that I did different in that month was downloading the bfc football league app. I've got rid of it now just in case (dont admit to doing owt different!). Also, make sure u download the Advanced Task Killer and shut everything that u don't want to use with that everytime u've done owt with ur phone.
