Had one come thru the gum about 8 years ago. Dentist said eventually would have to come out as there isn't really room for it ... it's biting into side of my cheek. Questions:
to remove 1 wisdom tooth - is it domne by local or general anasthetic?
could a wisdom tooth be responsible for migraines?
Can anyone convince me I want to have it removed?!!
    :'(

A wisdom tooth can cause all kinds of problems, I am not sure about Migraines tho`. They can be taken out under local anaesthetic or at least they could. If it is biting into your cheek , then it will cause mouth ulcers and sores,
leave it in and these can become infected and then you will need to have antibiotics or if sevely infected, Hospitalization. They will then have to remove the tooth anyway and you will have suffered untold pain and anguish for nothing.
So have it removed now and reduce the chances of further heartache.

    Hope this helps.

By the way if a wisdom tooth gets infected, it causes the whole side of your face to swell and can cause partial paralysis. Not nice!!!

    :) :) :)

I've had 2 out under local

Not a problem if they are not impacted - certainly not if in the top gum, Still have 2 in lower jaw so not sure if they are more difficult - think they are.
Best if you have a strong male dentist though - first one was just yanked out quickly before I even realised he was taking it out.
Second by a small lady dentist who had to "work it out" - took her ages wiggling it back and forth.

Best to discuss with your dentist really

Unlucky mate, wouldn't want to be you. I had 1 out at the dentist a few years ago, no problem. Then I had problems with another 2 about a year ago, went to the dentist but he said he couldn't do them because they were still under the gum and were partly under the next tooth (impacted, compacted ?). Had to go to hospital where I was roundly butchered. Was in agony for about 2 month afterwards, due to gettting an infection. About 3-4 weeks after the removal I felt something sharp in my gum, this turned out to be a shard of tooth that had been left in, apparently the tooth shattered as they were yanking on it. It slowly worked itself out as my body rejected it. Good luck with it.

I've had 3 done under local, 2 top 1 bottom. Top ones not a problem as they were quite a way through, just a case of anaesthetic and then breaking the tooth and a few twists, the bottom was harder as some of my jaw bone required shaving( or summat like that) and was a pain for about 10 days. Also on the bottom one as they had to slice the gum I required stitches which really pissed me off as one part of the stitch kept resting on one of my other teeth and I could feel it. The top ones just got plugged with some wadding until the bleeding subsided. Best of luck, as the others have suggested if its not impacted then it shouldn't be too bad( hopefully)

    Mmmmm

it gets better!! The tooth is well out, but well back - it's on the top (how the hell do they get to it without me biting their hand off or without dislocating my jaw?! I don't like the sound of this at all!

Dislocating your jaw is an option.

I've had both - wisdom tooth removed under general and local

I had a similar situation to you and had it removed under local. Definitely worth it. Pain in the arse (and cheeks) when you're biting your gums everytime you try to eat.

I has 4 teeth removed, top and bottom, each side, when I was younger. Dentist told me, apart from having fillings, they'd take em out, and it'd make wisdom teeth easier to come thru.

Ex-wife had her wisdom teeth out when she was 23. I remember meeting her, when she came round from anaethetic(sp), and she looked like a hamster!!! :D :D

    One Wisdom tooth

<div>... can I think still be removed by dentist with local anasthaetic.</div><div>Had all mine done one by one over a period of a few years as they each became troublesome. One of them was unbelievably causing me pain on the other side of my mouth. Best thing I ever did. My dentist told me he had all his out as they are potentially troublesome.</div><div>I am no dentist but I BELIEVE that Wisdom teeth are not quite as deep rooted as other teeth and they do come out fairly easily. Hope that helps.</div>

    If it's a top one

Then it is feasible it is causing your migraines.
However, although without seeing it I can't guarantee anything, as a rule, upper wisdom teeth are about the easiest teeth in your head to remove.

And I'm not just saying that to make you feel better.
