You're thinking of the A teams helicopter - things have moved on since then.
But the pilots still wear headsets, so the chances of hearing a conversation are pretty much nil I'd have thought.

They all have headphones that they talk to each other through. You could hear a pin drop in em. Or summat...
The headphones they wear are actually intercoms. It's a legal requirement for all passengers due to the noise from the propellers and engine. According to my mate.
I think it was one of those police helicopters with speakers on it. My friend is a trainee farmer and overheard PC flying over talking about how "Brian wants a new house with a fountain, but it would involve bulldozing Simon's house and using the land". How many trainee farmers do you know?
I don't, but my mate's brother is training to be a cowboy, and whilst riding the range last night he heard Brian Howard rubbing out his name from the Sheff Utd teamsheet whilst on his phone to Jan Michael Vincent.
That makes sense. My other mate is a trainee stationer who said he sold a rather noisy eraser to Brian Howard yesterday. He said Brian was distracted as he was on the phone. He overheard Brian talking to a host of uninterested clubs asking them if he could join them on loan and what flying conditions were like in Bristol.
apparently......................... it's about 75%-it's even worse in a Chinook because they have two engines-and they crash a lot
You have to shout to be heard....
.....which means others can hear you too. You could certainly mishear something but I'm not sure it would be possible to mishear an entire tale. If you were mishearingI wouldn't expect it to make any sense.
A bit like some of the misthinking on here.
