The Worth VAlley Anniversary Express A new route has been adopted for this extra special train to Keighley to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway. The steam special from Stockport, will now call at Hathersage in the Hope Valley then Sheffield and Meadowhall, before travelling via the rare steam route through Barnsley to Altofts Jct and on to Keighley for the Gala event. The full route will take us through Hazel Grove, New Mills South Junction, Chinley North Junction, Dore West Junction to Sheffield where the locomotive will take water. From here the route will see a rare stop for passengers at Meadowhall (easily accessed from the M1) before the line through Chapeltown and Barnsley ( a particularly rare route for steam) for Altofts Juction and Wakefield Kirkgate and then Engine Shed Junction for the Aire Valley to Keighley. Hauled by Black Five No. 45407, the train will be steam-hauled all the way - a truly wonderful way to celebrate the occasion.
