Not trying to be trite, but...

Have you tried a brewery, they sell ale by the barrell or polypin.

Try a smaller independent brewery in your local area. You'll be suprised how easy it is.

A mate of mine lived in Elsecar and was always buying them from the brewery in the "workshops".
Couldn't tell you anymore about it though !

Used to be a place on Dodworth High Street, but think it closed down? Barraclough's or something, on the corner as you head towards Gilroyd?

Sorry should have been more specific

As with all the questions I post on here, I hope that someone will come back with the answer for me so I don't have to do the research work myself!!

So what I need to know is
Where specifically to approach, i.e. which Breweries ( I have found one, Kelham Island in Sheff, but no price list).
    How much it costs
    Deposits/ pick up.

    What's a polypin?

A polypin is a container of 20 litres or 36 pints capacity. Much easier to sort out than a barrel, you can get 2 or 3 different ales in then.

Try Here for links to breweries in S Yorks.
