anyone know why 3 lanes of the M1 was shut last night?

i nearly missed the kickoff last neet after being stuck in that traffic jam for bloody ages.</p>

all i could make out was a **** load of cop cars and some sort of crane and bobkat.</p>

That's why a red-faced, panting Revvie P could only gasp a strangled hello as I came past you to take my seat 5 minutes after kickoff! </p>

 

I know....cos I saw it.....

At the M62 junction a Landrover had lost its front wheel and was sitting on the hard shoulder - there were two trailers upside down in the middle of the road and lanes 2 and 3 were closed. This was about 5.30-ish. Didn't see much else cos I was concentrating on getting past it.

Typically most people pulled in to the inside lanes, so I just shot down the outside lane until 50 yards from the coned areas and nipped in. If I'd sat in the main traffic queue I wouldn't have been surprised if I had been there another hour or so.

 

I wonder why it took so long to shift.
All 3 lanes were closed at 7.15! I finished work in Leeds at 6.30 and missed kick off.

It didn't look that bad though!

Not when I went past anyhow - a few coppers could have dragged the debris off the road. Maybe something else went a bit pear-shaped later on.

Ahh - thinking about it, since it was in the outside lanes, they'd have had to shut the inside lane to drag it all off the carriageway.

I leave Leeds at 5pm or before for a weekday match, not worth the hassle of leaving any later!

I was just about to get on the M621 when i saw the traffic building up at around 18:00so i went through middleton and got on the m1 at jct 41, wondered why it was quiet when i got on the motorway.</p>

Thank god i did that.</p>

 

yeah i hate people who do it...

so now i just do it myself, then i cant lose.

Then again - why do people pull in to a queue of virtually stationary traffic when they have another 2 miles of perfectly clear road in front of them? Weird behaviour if you ask me.

yeh, that baffles me too. at least the outside lane was a lot faster than the rest so i cant complain in that respect.
