Going for my birthday this year, and checking for flights/hotels it's coming up with flights to Brussels (nearest airport is in Ostend but doesn't come up with that), apparently that's a hour away by train. So is it easy to get train from Brussels airport to Bruges?

    Bruges is in Belgium!
Thanks for that though, I was in Amsterdam last week and the public transport is so simple to use. I've had a look online and found the Belgian railway website (English translated version), there is, as you say, a train station at airport, have to travel into Brussels (10 mins) and then 1 hour by train to Bruges.....33 Euro return. Can only book a month in advance though.

If anyone has done the trip, then all advice welcome.

Gigged there many, many moons ago. Went okay I think. We were on the ferry with a tour bus and did France first if I remember correctly, as Lille was the first date , we probably used Calais. Think we did Bruges on the way through to Hanover, would have made sense that way.

This is absolutely no use whatsoever, is it? Many apologies.

That would have been the Bounty Hunters as in Dave Kusworth and.... a lesser known bunch of Keith Richards wannabes from Birmingham on Creation records. I was on guitar in the early mid 90s. Think we had some nice shows on that tour opening for the Lemonheads, who were on fire at the time. I'll have to consult my memoirs, it's all a bit of a blur which suggests it was probably pretty good!

Been loads of times mate, but we've always gone from Hull to Zeebrugge on the ferry then a coach run of about 20 mins to Bruges. Couldn't be simpler really to book this way. Beautiful city, excellent beer and probably the best chips in the world !!! Enjoy.

Thought about the ferry, having done that last week to Amsterdam....it's justa case of either reducing nights we have in Bruges which I don't want to do, or extending the trip out a bit and that would mean weekend ferries which pushes the cost up

My parents took me and my brother when we were younger

We went from Hull to Zebrugge by ferry as someone else above says. Overnight by ferry job, arriving early the next morning.

Absolutly stunning city, wouldn't mind going again.

Wouldn't have thought there would be a problem with trains in Belgium,we went to Antwerp on the Eurostar and had no problem getting from Brussels to there. We were going to have a day in Bruges but our visit to Antwerp coincided with a promotion for a beer called Troubadour Magma ,after a couple nights on that we'd all on to remember who we were never mind where we were.
