RE: Anyone on here been to Phoenix, Arizona? i bin theear..
Stayed in the north side Scottsdale. Late eighties. I had a good old time with a yank mate and his family. Went out to a bar in the desert... dirt street, rails to hitch your horse, a real saloon... The cactus. that's a surprise, when you first see them big cactussuseses all over the place.
Big City though and hot. It is flat and brown and hazy.... It is unique, like. I had a great time.
After a few days my mate and me drove up to Las Vegas which is only a few hours through the desert and accross the Hoover Dam. In fact if you ever go to Vegas, go to Phoenix and drive.
worth a look, I reckon..

Yes Wenta week in 1995. Didn't rate the city much, I was staying in the AYH which was run by a bloke from Leeds, and prior to being an AYH was a crack house where some murders had been committed. The area around where I stayed was no go at night, and I heard gunfire on two ocasions, and saw one mega police chase down the street where the hostel was, about 10 cars one after another.
The centre consisted of one long road with shops down either side, which were OK and clothes were very cheap, but there didn't seem to be much to do there. I was told that Laughlin (sp?) was a nicer place. I basically used Phoenix as a base from which to go on lots of days out, but I don't think I'd be bothered about going back.
