I've got an interview next week, job ticks all the boxes except it's in Nottingham.

Just wondered if it's a reasonable commute for a 9-5ish job? What's the M1 like around that time? Google maps says it's an hour and a quarter but how much added on at peak times?

I live close to Jct 37 so I'd be on the motorway quickly.

I've previously commuted from Barnsley to Leeds and Barnsley to Halifax so it's not as though I'm not used to a reasonable commute.

Get off at Jn 26 and park at Phoenix Park, get the tram into Nottingham. The A610 is a dick on a morning.

When Laura had her transplant, I stayed with her at the hospital whilst Crystal commuted from home every day. On a good day, Sunday morning for example, it'd take an hour to go from Dodworth to the QMC Hospital in Nottingham. However, there were occasions when this time could be almost doubled, due to aspects such as volume of traffic, accidents, roadworks, etc.

30 years ago you couldn't get into Nottingham if you were from Yorkshire.Roadblocks everywhere.Still detest hearing Nottingham mentioned even after all these years.

Thanks for that - I should point out that the offices are a little out of the city centre at a business park.

Train is 1hr 20 mins. Just as another possibility. Often it's direct, no changes. You can beat that in the car, but not at rush hour(s).

    Cheers Jay.
I've looked into that as well, the offices are about a mile and half from the station but there is a regular bus every 6 mins between the 2 as well, so it is a possibility.

Good luck with the interview btw. If you get the job, you'll find a way.

Dunno if the A1/A614 might offer an alternative. You'd need to get over towards Donny for the A1, but it might be quieter...

Or come off the M1 at Mansfield and pick up the A60 then A614. Depending on where the traffic is bad

It takes me 1 hr 15 on an average day from Pen1stone, would be an hour if it wasn't for the 20 mile stretch of the M1 that's 50mph.

Longest it's taken me (rush hour on a Friday) is 1hr 50, so it's doable. Just incredibly frustrating in the 50mph bit.

A1/A614 etc. takes you well out of the way and isn't worth it. M1, for all it's fault at the moment, is still the fastest route by car.

Edit: I should point out that it takes me 1hr 15 on an average day AFTER the morning rush, setting off around 11/12 o clock. Would take at least an hour and half during morning rush hour I'd imagine.

I drove down 2 weeks ago, okay going down as l had just missed the peak traffic, drove back at 3.30ish and it took 2 hr. Its the roadwork's at the minute that are the nightmare but they won't be there in 12 months time and that stretch of the motorway will be four lanes so it should be a breeze. I work at the top of Leeds and commute a hour each way, when its mainly all motorway it's not a bad run.

for 9-0 its a proper ba**ard and 5 -0 even more.I`m sorry to say.If you have a flexi time option snatch their hand off as 7.15 ish is a good time to travel which will give you a reasonable finish time to beat the 5-0 "blues".I have worked both sides of Nottingham so you are correct with the M1.I worked t`other side so A1 is ok for me.
There are loads of opportunites in the mansfield, sutton, newark, nottingham area so it is 2014 and we dont get owt handed on a plate so good on yer.

which business park. Nottingham can be a mare at the minute due to tram works, but these should be complete by end of the year. M1 is the biggest problem at the minute with the 50mph limits

I commute from Darton to J27 and takes about an hour on average at the moment. As others have said the roadworks are costing about 10-15 minutes at the moment. I leave about 6:30 to try and miss the worst of it so not sure how busier it gets if you are looking to start around 9.

It's a perfectly commutable distance though and will improve by this time next year when roadworks are finally done.

    Thanks all.

Will have to see if flexi is an option but if so would definately look at that.

I used to work in Halifax and used to get in the office by 7:30 and leave by 4 so I could beat the traffic and also so I could get parked up.
