How bad is it? Tonsils have flared up again - 4th time sice Christmas. Think it's time to say goodbye to them. :'(
don't do it! suffered ever since with cattargh throat infections-they are there to do a job filtering out rubbish
Thing is One side seems to be filtering out the rubbish & swelling up every 4 or 5 weeks ......... and it is agony. Not sure I can go on with knowing I'm getting this infection so regularly. Up to now it's sore swollen throat, but I've startted feeling cold again - which is a sure sign for the full blown fever. :'( In fact it seems to be cattarh type symptoms that "hone" in on the one tonsil - feels like it's coated in slime!!
Aye Don't Do It My friend had them taken out and she lost a fair bit of weight and couldn't eat anything for long enough. You'll have a job on getting them to take them out as well. My cousin she suffers really bad with hers on a monthly basis and they keep telling her that her case isn't severe enough to have them removed.
Had mine out around 13yrs ago (Now 44) and to be honest after the initial discomfort which lasted around 6 weeks it was well worth it!! I used to have regular boughts of Tonsillitis as a kid and also suffered as I got older. The final straw was when I developed something called a Quincy (Abcess) and I ended up in hospital for 3 days on intravenous antibiotics. Got bumped to the top of the waiting list for removal because of this. Since removal haven't had half as much trouble with colds, infections etc
I used to suffer quite bad with tonsillitis and sceptic tonsils yet my doctor wouldn't recommend the removal of them. Thankfully since I've stopped smoking I don't get half as many bouts of it.
Never smoked Think these bouts could be "stress related" as I have never been this stressed at work before.
I saw the consultant but decided against after a long bout of severe outbreaks. I asked him if removal wold prevent infection and he said no but just reduced the potential severity/ Strangely ever since I've only had mild attacks so personally glad I kept them.
Ok you've all convinced me I'll hang on for a bit! Will see what happens in the summer when work stress should hopefully drop - hopefully I'll be a bit healthier if I have time to look after myself properly.
RE: Ok you've all convinced me Maybe your Doctor should do a general blood count test as you seem to be getting ill quite regular, you may have an underlying problem causing your immune system to be low. Maybe anaemia or glandular fever
RE: Ok you've all convinced me My hubby been saying the same .... had glandular fever in my early 20s and it was similar to this, though I think I was more tired. Went on for months though. Ah well, plenty of folks worse off, I'll just have to sort myself out. Maybe it's "football withdrawal"!!
RE: Ok you've all convinced me As you said earlier, it could be stress affecting your immune system. Maybe try some vitamins to give you a boost? The other half as just pointed out to me that the vast amount of orange juice that I now drink may have helped me.
have you tried echinacea - if i spelt it right. Natural herbal antibiotic. Might help... Not an expert like but works magic for colds etc.
Funnily enough I've often been told I've got a laugh like his <img src ="http://www.bbc.co.uk/wear/content/images/2006/11/06/sidjamesgallery_470x353.gif">
