advertising the forthcoming matches at Oakwell? Would a return to outdoor advertising help promote BFC to local people or would it be a complete waste of time? I wish I'd got some of those posters now, would make a good collection.
Re: Anyone remember in the 1960s/70s the posters BFC used to put up all round the are I remember those little banner adverts on the top of the Yorkshire Tricky bus windows. It was quite a sport at school to collect them (when t'conductor weren't looking)
Re: Anyone remember in the 1960s/70s the posters BFC used to put up all round the are Best form of advertising is by word of mouth. Simple, play well and win more games.
Re: Anyone remember in the 1960s/70s the posters BFC used to put up all round the are I'd have thought big ben would've clicked on the idea. Its right up his street
Re: Anyone remember in the 1960s/70s the posters BFC used to put up all round the are They even advertised reserve team games on the 'Trackies". As someone who became a regular supporter in the mid 60's, I do not think that they were very effective. I remember attending the last game of the 65/6 season against Southport when on 1600 were inside Oakwell. We won 4-0. This attendance was a little up on that of the previous home game. We almost went bust during the next season before Arnold Dennis put up,some money and Joe Richards sold out.
Re: Anyone remember in the 1960s/70s the posters BFC used to put up all round the are ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ This 100%
Re: Anyone remember in the 1960s/70s the posters BFC used to put up all round the are It was Ernest Dennis and Geoff Buckle who put up the £10,000 to buy Thomas and Evans, thus saving the club. I was at that Southport game as well
Re: Anyone remember in the 1960s/70s the posters BFC used to put up all round the are There used to be one at Shafton Two Gates - in Engine Lane - in the early 70s when I was at Milefield Middle School. Would be a waste of dead trees in 2016 AD (After Digital). I may agree to go under hypnosis to see the posters once more - and the price of match tickets!
Re: Anyone remember in the 1960s/70s the posters BFC used to put up all round the are Just looked up the game. Addy 2 , Hewitt and Hobson were the scorers. I remember Hewitt's goal, was a cross that was missed by the Southport keeper, one Albert Lord, and went in. The attendance was in fact 1915. The previous game a 3 -0 win against Wrexham was witnessed by only 1577 souls, probably the lowest ever attendance for a league game at Oakwell. Looking at the final table those two wins avoided the club having to apply for re-election.
Re: Anyone remember in the 1960s/70s the posters BFC used to put up all round the are The Cilla Black song Alfie was out at that time and the wags behind the goal turned on their dodgy keeper with a rendition of "What's it all about, Albert". Oh how we laughed!
Re: Anyone remember in the 1960s/70s the posters BFC used to put up all round the are We must have both been on the Ponty End. I remember singing that. He was only a young lad.
Re: Anyone remember in the 1960s/70s the posters BFC used to put up all round the are Yes we must have been. You, me and maybe a couple of hundred more, if that. Seems odd to imagine such low crowds but that's how it was, until the "massive cash injection " the following year It amuses me to read the comments on here about how bad things are now. My God, they know nothing!
With tickets being priced at £23, it'd take one mighty effort to get some fans back with us doing so badly in the third division. Win games and the crowds will grow. However, the horrific matchday prices can't be helping...
