Think it was a cup game v Mansfield. It had peed down all day, and seemed to get worse through the first half. Second half started and when a person dived into the tackle, it was like they were diving into Race Street Baths! Referee abandoned the game after 60 mins, which I think was just enough so we couldn't claim our money back. Any ideas?
Only abandoned game I saw at Oakwell was Spud's testimonial game vs Sheff Utd. Only got the first half cos of heavy snow (or is my memory playing tricks?). Entertaining though!
Middlsboro away on new years day - called off at half time Players kept changing from boots to white trainers. At ayresome park no less. Quality
I can picture the game as if it was yesterday. Only thing I can't remember is who it was against! (doh)
Werent we 2-0 up at the time? Got soaked walking from the bus to the ground that night. My poor two tone jacket!!
cambridge....milk cup we used to sneek in at the back o the paddock, only they put a couple o plods there that night, took us til just after half time to get in and then the called it off! n my cigs got ruined too! absolutely drenched!
Definitely Cambridge There was one bloke stood on the kop with an umbrella. He got a few songs sung about him.
My recollection is that there was just the one bloke I'm pretty sure about that, but it was a hell of a long time ago, so I could easily be wrong. There'll be loads that are certain they saw Graham Roberts injure Gwyn Thomas along in a minute to tell me I'm wrong.
Big Lil would tell you that.. It was abandoned after 53mins with the score at 1-1 Banksy scored. Come to think of it I'd probably say that as well
1982/83 season We were drawing 1-1 with Cambridge United in the League Cup when the referee abandoned the game due to torrential rain. We eventually won through to the next round, where we won 3-1 against Sheffield United at Brammall Lane (after being 1-0 down at half time). We were beaten in the 4th Round 1-0 by Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough, after playing them off the park and the referee decided to play on after we'd scored a perfectly good equaliser!! As a footnote, we were knocked out of the FA Cup in the 4th round by................................................Cambridge United.
RE: Middlsboro away on new years day - called off at half time I remember him going down with a fake injury and the pitch being showered from the sidelines with trainers for the players to change into.
Many thanks to all the replies I remembered the team colours were yellow shirts/black shorts which would fit Cambridge.
