Michael Turner who we signed from non-league, think he was a doctor who had just graduated. Remember him making a big impact and scoring 3 or 4 goals in his first couple of games. Anyone remember him and what happened to him??
I remember him but I think you've got your figures a little wrong He came off the bench on his debut and scored then played another 10-15 games (mostly as sub) without scoring before we sent him out on loan to about 5 teams and then he went to doncaster. Wasn't he a university student studying for a degree?
Yeah either studying for a degree or he'd just completed one which was why the club said he wasn't already a full professional. I think he scored a good goal against Ipswich but never ended up doing much. Just wondered where he ended up and wether he persued another career. Can you remember around when it was we signed him?
John Hendrie signed him I think; 98/99 season? He scored in the last minute after coming on as sub. We'd just beat Huddersfield 7-1 & Sunderland 3-2 so there was a bit of optimism about getting promoted again. Then we signed Don Goodman & ended up playing Karl Rose up front with him.
That was it! We beat those two and then Ipswich at home. Plus we were the first team ever to beat Sunderland at the stadium of light! I wonder what would have happened that season if we'd kept hold of Ward. Everything seemed so right when we beat Huddersfield. That goal of Barnard's was unbelievable. Fast forward a couple of months to Bury away which was one of the most depressing afternoons of my life. The worst 0-0 I've ever seen. Neither team manged a shot, let alone on target. Still wonder what turner ended up doing??
last i heard he was playing over in Ireland. not sure if he still is nowadays though because that was a while ago.
