I'm looking for a training partner to give me a kick up the arse and help me get under 4 hours. I've done it twice already and trained, travelled to London and ran the race all on my own. This is my 3rd and last one (said that after the 1st) so it would be nice to have a training buddy.

Ran for NSPCC last time but i'm hoping to get a ballot place so i can raise money for a local charity.

    Any ideas guys ???

I wont be running but have before. Your best bet is to get in touch with the charity you are going to run for and tell them your intentions, they may point you in the direction of other runners or offer help raising the money. Make sure you get fit ennough before you take part though it can be very dangerous when you have not trained correctly. Good luck anyway (Y)

Me and a couple of others are thinking about doing it. Just what sort of training did you do for it ? For example diets, how many months in advance etc. Thanks.

well the key is not to do too much too soon cos your pretty much buggered if you do. you need to build up the training each week in order for progression, depending on how fit you are already will determine how quickyly you can progress. dont train everyday as rest is just as important as the training in order to allow the body to recover. in terms of food slow burning carbs are what you need, things like pasta are good night before you train. im sure all this information will be available on national sports websites if you look hard enough anyway try googleing it

Yeah the key is preperation. You've got to be able to commit to at least 5 days a week to some sort of running, building up to a long run on Sunday.

You can pick up the London Marathon magazine for free at JJB. That will give you loads of advice on training and diet etc.

A good tip is invest in a good pair of trainers. One pair will see you through training and the race its self.

If you are serious about doing it let me know, like i said i've done it twice so i'm pretty much up on it. I would recommend that you go for it, the feeling that you get when you cross the finish line runs a very close second to my sone being born. Its a magnificent day and a fantastic achievement. It changed the way i think about life.
