I've heard that the USA version is quite terrible indeed. It's probably still a lot better than the German version though.
Watched the first half. Considering it was exactly the same story as the original, I thought it would be good. However add to the mix the awful American sense of humour which made it ridiculously poor. It was as though the Americans were taking the piss out of our sense of humour.
Not bothered with it due to it likely making our own UK version look Oscar worthy. So many people telling me to watch the UK version, how it's a British version of American Pie etc. Watched the movie the other week when it was on Channel 4 without ever seeing any of the TV show. Damn it was poor. Joe Thomas will always be Kingsley from Fresh Meat too.
A lot would disagree with you for a reason. I perosnally thought it was really good. Never liked that American Pie TBH but i though inbetweeners was a good, well a really good show and i liked the movie. That last night was shocking. I watched both of the shows last night and it was shocking.
I watched about two minutes and that was enough to convince me it was utter, utter gash. Likewise the USA version of Life on Mars was absolutely terrible. I don't know why they try and remake British classics, they should just enjoy the original and best version.
i thought it was *****, was all most line for line the same which doesnt work with the americans, and some of the best bits they've changed for example next weeks show in the british version when they go to london clubbing and Jay calls the people at the bus stop "bus w@nkers" in the USA version he calls them "bus turds"?????????????/
The only US remake of any British comedy the Americans have pulled off is The Office. That is probably better than the UK version, it has me in stitches everytime I watch it especially the earlier versions.
Nothing will come close to the British version of The Inbetweeners it is absolutely quality and I'm sure 95% of people can relate to the incidents from their younger days.
If you're talking about the Office then yes they are. Shame really but i can understand why, all tv shows have a sell by date.
I thought Veep was excellent, but I think the key with that was the setting and idea was the same as The Thick Of It, but didn't copy the storylines. Ianucci reimagined it in the American political system
Veep is excellent. I think the reason they remake so many is much of it doesn't translate over there....the w*nker bit they wouldn't get away with broadcasting over there (not even sure they have the term). I agree it's annoying that they remake stuff, would rather they left alone but I do see whay they do it - we've have far more of their programmes here and with films we get many references....but the same doesn't work the other way. Can't comment on the Inbetweeners as I've not even seen the original version
The top & bottom of it is that the British are much better at swearing than the yanks I can't remember the word "clunge" being mentioned once last night!
I actually didn't think it was all that bad I expected it to be completely unwatchable but on the contrary found it quite entertaining in a mindless kind of way. Which, ironically, is where I think it fails. When I watched the UK version I found it too painful to watch an episode all the way through and had to keep pausing it or watching something less emotionally distressing for a little while and then coming back to it. Mind you, I think I may have unresolved issues from my childhood.
Just watched it, utter garbage. I actually watched the original first series the other day for the first time and forgot how funny it was!
