Last year we got 21253. This season the game is all ticket, yet I don't see when fans can get those tickets, what with the box office being snowed under with people buying Chelsea tickets. They've opened up the turnstiles on Wednesday afternoon after realising the problem, but that's a pretty small window for people to organise a way to get their tickets. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe it'll be a sell out. I hope so. I don't think the club have done a lot wrong in the way they've sold the Chelsea tickets. I just don't think the current box office set up is designed to cope with us being a successful club. If we intend doing well in the future, attracting more fans to our games, then a massive overhaul is needed in the way we're sold tickets.
Maybe they'll have a bit of sense And either have a queue for Sheffield Wednesday tickets only, or even a day for SWFC tickets only?
Catch 22 Do you invest in a system that is way in front of our requirements generally, in the hope that it is there to cope with possible future success, or use the same system that can usually cope but shows its weaknesses at times like this?
Is selling out Chelsea on time a bigger bonus that getting an extra 6-8000 reds fans through the door for SWFC. A fine balance. Personally I'd employ a few agency staff for a few days (say 150 quid for a 3 day shift) and get few thousand SWFC/QPR (and Blackpool) tickets shifted.
On line ticket sales has got to be the way forward The initial outlay is quickly off set by the reduction in staff needed.
Probably because 1..Its not being held during the christmas break 2..Piggies not as keen this year 3..Expense of buying Chelsea tickets for home fans 4..Box office choked by Chelsea sales
yes i think it will suffer and yes i think you are right - installing an online database to sell tickets would costs about 2 grand tops and has to be the way forward. maybe some of the chelsea revenue could be spent towards this?
Cant see a new system being that expensive nor difficult to implement Its just that up and till the last couple of years the money was probably better spent on players.
I bet you could go to Barnsley College and get some good young programmers to knock up a secure site for selling tickets on line - set up an account with Worldpay, CommsXL, or even Paypal, and you're off and running. Could be sorted for next season. Chances - nil.
Actually "I don't think the club have done a lot wrong in the way they've sold the Chelsea tickets." I think I've changed my mind about that. Only opening for 3 hours on a Saturday morning and, if reports are to be believed, serving just 150 customers is barmy in my view. When do they want those who work 9-5 Monday to Friday to buy their tickets?
How long is kick off likely to be delayed on Tuesday? Because they are clearing the backlog and people still to get in the ground. Just so I know, was thinking I could set off to the game about 15 mins later and stay warm a bit longer.
