wolves there for taking, midfield is sadly lacking. devaney played better when switched to right hand side.
Probably right result, Wolves created most chances and had most possesion. We didn't play too bad although never looked like winning. Not sure if our goal was onside or not my initial view was that stan came from quite a way back so was probably onside but there were two reds players near him which wer probably off. Wolves defence very well organised on set pieces especially with offside trap. Devaney had a good chance in second half but curled shot wrong side of post. Muller again was excellent with crucial saves
Our defence was very dodgey all game from corners and free kicks. As well as the goal they also hit the post (and then again from the rebound). Woles dominated the game for an hour and we took over for the last 20 minutes. Like you say, probably a fair result.
Muller and the woodwork kept the score down to 1 0. Wolves cold have had 3 or 4 first half. They seemed to back of a bit last 25 minutes . For me we lost the battle in midfield . Too often our midfield backed off rather than close then down or challenge up field, putting the defence under uneccessary pressure. At one point the midfield were literally on top of the defence. I lost count of the number of corners we gave away first half. Wolves were excellent at closing us down , forcing back passing and stopping us play a passing game. We didn't help ourselves by not running into space much ( Ferenzci did try to ) . We would do well watch the videos of Wolves corners . Their goal came from a brilliant ball in from a corner and our defence not picking up their left back. Muller not much chance with that. We were lucky to be only 1 0 down at half time. Second half we had a few spirited moves , but poor finishing /no one running into the box. If we could have done this , they were there for the taking . We had a better last 25 and although we didn't play that well could have sneaked a point if we could finish . Ferenzci got the ball in the net . He wasn't offside but I thought at least 2 of our players were - unfortunately. Travelled back to London with some Wolves fans and they thought we would nick a point near the end. The positives : Devaney played better than of late second half . Macken did try and battle for the ball, by tracking back all the time in midfield Muller was sharp as ever We only conceded one We didn't roll over and give up . Improvement areas ( don't like the word negative ) Midfield. we need a player who is solid and can pass a ball , to free Howard to get forward. Togwell was having an off day - him and Howard want to play in the same posiiton JCR tried but.... he cant beat the first man bless him Werling - why dont we give him a role without too many defensive duties Davey - learn how to vry it when tactics not working - be brave and do it earlier Find a Da Silva clone - my Christmas wish ! Shore up the right and left wing defensive play ,to stop the centre backs getting dragged across, leaving room for a chieftain tank to get through the middle Reconsider why Christiansen is not in the squad . Regain our confidence and our hunger to win . We gave Wolves too much respect today . Let' s not do the same with Watford. Freya
Good post. When Werling plays at left back, I don't think hes defensively good enough to let an out and out winger play infront of him. McCann needs to play on the left when Werling starts. Or possibly try Werling on the left wing? I don't know..
RE: Good post. Mexborough thanks . You make some good points about Werling . I would like to see him on the left wing .He can pass and can take powerful accurate free kicks. Interesting thought about Mc Cann . It might work. What have we got to lose in trying it. Werling did his best today. OK he was subbed . Not sure why as replaced with Ricketts who frustrates me as I ws expecting so much more from him . Freya
Yeah well we were there as always. Not too unhappy really - didn't expect anything from the game. Happy that we are capable of competing in this league and we're enjoying it! Onwards towards 50 points we go.
I thought we competed well against one of the best defensive sidesin the Championship. I expected nothing but surprisingly, I came away with a great deal of positives. The difference was a superbly taken corner by them and us failing to deal with it, after that, it could have gone either way.
Hi Warks, maybe it was me " putting the speck " on the result when you caught me gambling at the ladbrookes kiosk .( well holding the queue up while the nice man wrote out my bet for me ) . Freya
