I've seen all of his Oakwell appearances so far this season and it seems that he gets at least one, if not two or three, heading chances in the opposition six yard box every match. He missed an absolute sitter against Doncaster but at least that time he kept it down. Fair play to the lad for at least being there, on the end of our mostly woeful crosses. But for goodness sake! Can't he at least get the odd one on target? His ability to get his head to balls coming towards our goal is pretty reasonable but there is no point in him being in the opposition's penalty box if that is the best he can do. Now, remind me - which diminutive Barnsley player rose above everybody to score the winner against Watford last season? With his head. Wears a number two on his back I think......
Good point, ex Prince of Risborough. As an ex-centre half, I can say that there is a lot of difference in heading a ball to get height and distance on it, to heading a ball with direction and pace to score a goal. Maybe in practice M'Voto only trains to do the former?
It drives me nuts, I have seen him with more headers in the box then the rest of the team put together, but how mnay times has the keeper had to actually make a save? Possibly never!
Well as an ex-goalkeeper (and ex-Prince of Risborough!) I would say that he was the ideal opponent when it comes to defending corners. You know there is a chance he might get on the end of one, but you also know that the ball will be at least 10 feet over the bar. You're probably right - he was only ever trained to get a good head on the ball for maximum height, not direction. Classic centre half play really. Big Winnie, though, he aint!
That's about right - never. On the other hand it's not his job to test the opposition keeper is it? Just wish he was better at what he does, that's all
His attacking headers are woeful and you're right about Bobby in that he would probably have scored a couple of goals given the same chances. Fozzy knew how to score a goal or two with his head too.
Really? So did I! Back in the 1960s when I was goalkeeper for Old Town St Pauls Under 18s I got "spotted" by the Barnsley manager's brother (Keith Steele). He got me to go down to Oakwell for a week or so of evening training sessions. Not good enough though - crushed!! New house is ok, settled in fine. Just not sure buying one just the wrong side of the Yorkshire border was the best idea though. Very unsettling - might turn into a border reiver
Mike when was the last time a Barnsley striker scored in that position, no good keep having a go at m'voto.
Not having a go at him as such - he's a Third Division centre half being asked to do too much (just like his previous manager). Just drives you mad that's all. If we had a proper centre forward it wouldn't be an issue would it
More bothered about him heading the ball away from our goal to be honest. The strikers should be the ones getting on the end of crosses and when was the last time we had a prolific centre half. I think M'Voto is one of the players who's looking better every game.
Found a new wiping boy then. Mvoto is to blame for every thing is he? He has been solid at the back for us for weeks.
