Not a lot as far as I can see it, except that Coyle has given his team belief in their ability and their ability and RIGHT to compete.

    Should use them as inspiration...

A good manager and astute "open" leadership off and on the pitch, Oh and a chairman who knows what he is doing.

They have balced squad i.e. a good mix of youth and experience, and very few foreign nationals......

    and also competition for places.....

We fallen short in past few seasons by not having to many foriegn nationals (all needing time to settle and adapt to life and football in England). Pre-SD, we always had a blend of English/Scotch/Irish/Welsh complimented by a few local lads and a couple of imports (ala Burnley). I always felt this resulted in a good mix of passion, ability, flair and ethusiasm.

So this season SD needs to get the mix right and bring in some home grown talent, or look across the borders. He has made some good aquisitions over the past few years but I feel as a squad we have lacked strength in depth, resulting in lack of competition for places and no adequate cover when we have had injuries. Prime example was the start of this season when Howard departed, Colace was still waiting for clearance, and Devaney and Anderson we both out injured.

Yeah, but they have risked long term stability in doing that

For me I wouldn't want to see us take that kind of risk. I would prefer us to see us well run within our operating budget. It also has to be remembered that they've been at this level for quite a long period now before they were able to kick on and get promotion. They've laid a foundation over a considerable period of time.

so we should just hope to stay up? or try to better ourselves?

I am not advocating total recklessness, but sometimes you have to speculate and push the boat a little further from the shore.

I have no wish to see us back in admin, or any other such situation, before I am shot down yet again.

Would love to see ambition but you must agree that it is reckless

to spend more on wages alone than your entire income? Do you spend more each month than you earn? Football clubs have to learn to live in the real world. Success will come if we build over a period of time with sustainable levels of investment

I know it's not much of an excuse but..

They've been in the Championship for about 9 years now, where as we've been relegated to League One and come out of administration.

Owen Coyle's done a brilliant job though.

Clearly we should try to better ourselves

but in the absence of 3.25m of kyle lafferty money, a steady improvement is the order of the day. I will be very, very disappointed to be in another relegation battle next year. A higher quality smaller squad seems a reasonable approach if loans are used well.

    That's the key thing

Burnley have established themselves in the league and slowly built a team which can compete. Owen Coyle has done a great job but you have to say that the building work began in the previous years in the Championship.

If we stuck around for another 5 years or so in the Championship then we might be able to challenge for a play off place. To expect it straight away is very foolish.

We should take inspiration from the Burnley and also Plymouth who are a few years ahead of us in establishing themselves.

It will take time, it won't happen overnight. We need patience and stability and above all the team needs our support.
