Not seen it myself - had a text. This better just be paper talk Shepherd or you will seriously get lynched! And Mick Macarthy would definitely be a lovely person.
Well if he went that would definiteley be me finished at the Well Its probably be only paper talk but if clubs are seeing us as such an easy touch and it came off (because lets make no bones about it players like him will be the difference in us doing anything over the next few seasons)it would speak volumes about our clubs ambition.Like I say can't see it myself but think its worth reinforcing it .
Read It Now.......... and doesn't mention a loan. So i would assume he will be bought in the summer to continue with our selling club mentality. Also our mentality of lacking ambition.
RE: Read It Now.......... Every club is a 'selling club', one way or another ......... and Barnsleys ambition is to stay in the Championship (for now). So, I wouldn't say we're lacking in that department.
Maybe Mick thinks he's doing us a favour? Presumably we'll make a profit on the signing and get another one off the wage bill. It doesn't make ANY sense in regards loaning him out though.
May be in the papers but it doesn't mean it's true. I can't see us buying a player, who is scoring and will hopefully keep us in this division, and giving him a longterm contract, just to sell him in Summer. I could understand it a little bit more if it had said Peter Rajczi as he is only here on loan and we have first option to buy at the end of the season, but I still would like to see him stay at BFC.
RE: May be in the papers but signing players on a long contract then selling him.....it would never happen here would it.....unless you mean like we did with Macindoe...? (doh)
RE: May be in the papers but Hell, we even allowed a special clause to be written into McIndoe's contract - just help things along.
I thought the clause in McIndoes contract had to be included otherwise we wouldn't have got him in the first place? Doesn't he still have that in his new contract? Also how many players/managers these days don't have clauses in their contracts that if bigger and better opportunities come along then they can leave? I know money talks but I still doubt that the club would keep repeating the same mistakes. If we get relegated then we may have to sell some of our players but if we manage to stay up then we need to keep the better ones.
It wouldn't surprise me If he has a clause in his contract along the same lines as the one that McIndoe had. I had a conversation with my brother not long after he signed when we both said that we suspected that he would have.
Let's hope it's all paper talk. Lots of players have a clause so it's possible but hopefully he won't have!
RE: It wouldn't surprise me Could be a clause if we get relegated. I was under no illusions when they signed, that they'd done so to put themselves "in the shop window" to move on....if they get the goals to keep us up then that's fine by me.
I think we slipped up a bit on that one though It's understandable that such clauses are inserted, but I think the McIndoe one sounds as though it was a bit loose. There was a similar sort of clause in Bougherra's contract (Sheff Weds). Whilst the Fowl's couldn't stop him from moving, they had agreed a minimum transfer fee and also had an opportunity to start a bidding war that netted them an additional £1m. From what I understand, the McIndoe "clause" pretty much allowed him to do as he liked. There were no other interested parties when we signed him from Doncaster (Derby didn't want to keep him), so I'm not sure how he manged to negotiate such a strong contract. Anyways, that's going over old ground. Stephen
