here are a few other interesting facts
Next to no tackles, no interceptions, never madespace to receive a pass, no shots, no headers, 20 yards behind play.
not good is it??

How about that "fresh air" clearance that directly resulted in the first goal? It was a bad mistake. Mattis knew it and the crowd knew it. Davey is trying to pull the wool over our eyes with meaningless statistics. I can't agree with him being singled out though.
Look, the guy hasn't had a fantastic start but lets not create a self fulfilling prophesy, slag him week in week out and then he looses all confidence....would it not be better to get behind him and encourage the guy? I can't remember that many brilliant debuts to be honest, maybe Currie, maybe higgy but redfearn was shocking when he first came, as was Wilson, shipperly etc. Lumsdon was a world beater in his fist few games, players demanded we signed him then turned out to be gash! I may be wrong, but Mattis could yet turn out to be ok for us but we'll never know if he gets booed when his name is read out - during warm up!
I think you'll find that people aren't booing Mattis, they are booing Davey for picking him I hope he does become a good player, but Davey shouldn't be throwing away the few precious games there are left in the hope that he might eventually findhis feet. Nows the time for experienced players in the teams central engine room, so to find him and Mccann there rather than Howard & Togwell hints of Davey having a deathwish to me.
Mattis is clearly out of his depth. Just the way he moves around the park shows him up to be not good enough. He is rarely in a position to receive the ball and when he does get a pass his ballwork is basic at best. Dont think it is fair of Davey to persist with him as he will continue to take stick. Better to leave him out this season and get some coaching into him over the rest of the season and pre-season. He might develop into a decent squad player but at the moment he is simply not good enough. Cant see him playing much now anyway, Howard, Togwell, Jones and McCann in front of him.
