"We are looking at younger targets and anyway his wages would be prohibitive," Ritchie said. Ritchie is ready to welcome skipper Paul Reid back to the team for the derby with Sheffield Wednesday in eight days. The centre-back has not played since September 12 after suffering an achilles injury. Ritchie said: "The doctor prescribed rest for him. He's had that and hopefully he'll be okay for next Saturday." Barnsley keeper Nick Colgan was today set to learn he is in the matchday squad for the Republic of Ireland's Euro 2008 qualifier in Cyprus. Colgan is hoping to be on the bench for the game as understudy to Sheffield United's Paddy Kenny. Following a 1-0 defeat to Germany in their opening Group D game, Steve Staunton's Irish side now face Cyprus in Nicosia tomorrow and the Czech Republic at Lansdowne Road on Wednesday. The Republic are already playing catch-up as both Germany and the Czechs have taken six points from their initial two matches. Ireland, though, have lost their last three, and failed to score in five of the previous seven as they continue the transition from the era of former manager Brian Kerr to that of Staunton.

Exactly Perfect example of why we need someone like Mogs. Kids make mistakes, and one mistake like Vito's could cost us a lot more than a point come the end of the season.
Fair enough if he'd cost too much for us, can't argue with that. But to want him because he's too old? **** me sideways.

It's been mentioned before by some, including myself, who find it odd that Ritchie appears to reject the idea of introducing maturity into the team albiet for a short loan period. I just wonder if some of his personal insecurities see mature players as a threat either,as a challenge to his status or alternatively not be capable of man managing a more mature player who may challenge and/or question some of his decisions or indeed both. I suspect that All is not alright and equally suspect there are issues here but,if not addressed, they are likely to backfire in the face of both Ritchie and shepherd
RE: Same age as Heckingbottom. difference is that Hecko was released and on a free and Morgan is under contract at a Premiership club
You might have hit the nail on the head. At present, as I have heard, McIntosh and Beckett have been giving pretty boy Jackson grief at the Galpharm. This has caused upset among the younger players. Some senior players believe they are Managers in waiting.
