I guess what I am asking is in terms of costs...... is it worth buying, new hard drive, dvd drive, memory to enhance the old lap top....!!! or should I just fork out for a new one? The spec seems pretty poor now, it has a 6gig hard drive and 68mb of RAM! CD ROM, floppy, 2No. usb ports.... I will use the machine for work, 2d CAD and word processing! I want to spend the least amount possible, ideally would like DVD-RW, 60gig HD, min 500k RAM and a card reader. Is this possible to do at low cost, or is it worth buying a new machine? Thanks Johnny
RE: Aquired an old laptop for nowt! its 7years old but cost £2k new... is it worth updating/upgradin Probably worth buying a new machine unless you can pick up some good deals on new parts
RE: Aquired an old laptop for nowt! its 7years old but cost £2k new... is it worth updating/upgradin £400 will get you an OK laptop, £500 an decent one and £600 plus it will be plenty fast. Don't try to enhance a 7 year old laptop, in fact, pretty much don't try to enhance any laptop other than RAM expansion.

RE: Aquired an old laptop for nowt! its 7years old but cost £2k new... is it worth updating/upgradin Goes without saying. Glittery paint, Bratz stickers and tippexed artwork.
