Just heard on TalkSport that he has agreed to sign for Brentford for £40million and a weekly wage of £75k

That same Brentford that didn’t go up to the Premier League because of our late winner? No, don’t believe it!

I know it’s been said 5,619 times already but there’s far too much money in the premier league. Brentford spending that much money? Crazy.

That kind of thing makes me hope they will sink like a stone this season and get relegated. I suppose they’re thinking if everyone else is spending stupid money we will join in as well. Crazy deal, if it’s true.

The Leeds fans will be furious about it!

Yeah Bournemouth are also doing it, and remember the debts Brighton had, in trying to go up to the Prem. It's disgraceful!.

Same. Them and Bournemouth. I was old enough to properly get into football in the early to mid 2000s and I can’t even remember what division Brentford were in then. Upon googling, it seems they were in the third tier and look to have spent a lot of their time in that division too. But I guess they’ve timed their upturn well because even if they go down, they’ll have masses of parachute money.

Leeds losing one of their best academy products to Brentford? Yep, I imagine they’ll be fuming!

Crowds mean little to nothing in the Premier League. TV money trumps ticket income by a mile.

Found this from years ago. Probably still relevant now that even more lucrative contracts have been signed with Sky etc.

Brighton have just paid £33mn for [checks notes] Yankuba Minteh from Newcastle. There have been some very high prices paid for players that even Hemmsy wouldn’t have heard of. Oh, and Newcastle trying to sell Anthony Gordon to Liverpool after barely 50 games for them.

It’s all a bit dodgy and it’s effectively another transfer window by proxy.

It’s not the sky money that bothers me, it’s more the fact that their owner bankrolled them into a position to get it. That’s just wrong for me.

Premier league clubs (especially the 'big' ones) would love to scrap season tickets, they want tourism, they want different people coming and spending full price monies on tickets, food, etc. It's the reason owners want to play games abroad.

It’s crazy money - all transfers are these days - but it isn’t a bank breaker. It should be, but it isn’t.

They made £120million from the premier league alone last season, and will get even more this season even if finishing in the same position. Stone dead last clears £100million. And don’t get me started on parachute payments…

And if they’re selling Toney - and it seems they are - then that’s the transfer fee and wage covered straight off the bat anyway.

But it has to be said, £35million up front for an 18 year old centre mid that’s barely played 50 pro games, none at the highest level and most of them as a makeshift right back, is a massive gamble. But Chelsea and spurs were also sniffing round - he’s going there to try and play you’d imagine.

I imagine he’ll have spent time at Oakwell as a nipper whilst his dad was laiking for us. Good luck to him.

Gonna have to sell a few this summer with FFP so they can't be too choosy.

I've watched him a few times, can't really see all the hype. Neat and tidy but nothing special, but what do I know
