<h3>Friday, 3 August, 2007: 10:00 BST</h3><h3>O'Driscoll hoping to build relationship with Reds</h3> Doncaster Rovers manager Sean O'Driscoll believes tonight's match against Manchester United could be the start of a useful relationship with the Premier League Champions. </p> O'Driscoll believes a night at the Keepmoat could be enough to convince some of the Manchester players that a loan spell with Rovers is a good option:</p> "We've got an opportunity for probably the younger element of Manchester United's squad to look at a brand new stadium and think 'oh, if Doncaster came in for me'... maybe if their perceptions of a Doncaster team or area will be altered because of the night.</p> "I think that's happened pre-season, with the amount of phone calls I get with players expressing a wish to come to Doncaster."</p>
I Hope They........... sign Eckersley and Jones to see just how much signing players from Man Utd doesn't always work.
Been looking on their board this morning... Apparantly they were promised Man U's first team by Mr Ryan, they now think it was a PR ploy to sell more season tickets and get a sell out for the game. I simply think 2 days after fielding a really strong side against Inter and 2 days before fielding a strong side against Chelsea do you think they would put a first team out against Donny?? They're a bit disgruntled. They are also dumb struck that having sold 5,100 Season tickets why they have only sold in total just over 6,000 for the first game v Millwall and thats including Season Tickets and away supporters. Think reality is sinking in, 80% of their crowd next year will be season ticket holders with not many "paying" supporters. Here's to their wage bill and failure of promotion crippling them.
Will Even The Man Utd Reserves......... be at Doncaster tonight? I think they have a match at Peterboro tomorrow where Owen Hargreaves is playing and obviously between the Inter and Chelsea matches first team players aren't going to be there. Probably be full of youth team players.
RE: Been looking on their board this morning... I think when we were in League 1 , it was around 80% of our crowds were Season Ticket holders.</p> </p>
RE: Been looking on their board this morning... Thats was us in the worst years, this is supposedly them on the up. Season ticket sales are up from around 4,000 including half season tickets and they're in the best position they have been in for 25 years or something. You cant pay on the turnstile at the Keepmoat, you have to purchase tickets beforehand so they are disgruntled at lack of non season ticket holder sales as this link shows. http://www.vikingsc.co.uk/donny.mpl?id=158458
RE: Not Being Able........ Ensures they have correct attendance figures and also within the tax laws or something they told supporters, as oppose to knocking off a few thousand! They also sell their shirts on a catergory basis too, with only Season Ticket holders being able to purchase them at the moment. Its not like they're in great demand!!!
It's the ellipsis that makes that quote so great "We've got an opportunity for probably the younger element of Manchester United's squad to look at a brand new stadium and think 'oh, if Doncaster came in for me'... "I'd f**king kill myself"? "I'd have my agent taken out and shot"? The possibilities are endless. None of the ones in my mind end well for Donny Rovers.
