Depends what type of pub you like If its a pint of real ale then The Reboubt at Westgate end is your pub as are many of the pubs south of Westgate Station.
Thats what I was thinkin abart a bit lively though would be preferable. Not fond of most of the plastic boozers Is Henry Boons OK?
RE: Depends what type of pub you like Harry's Bar or The Hop for a selection of Real Ale, Redoubt has decent Tim Taylors Landlord (sometimes) but not much else, Henry Boons is a bit hit and miss with beer quality but usually lively at a weekend. If its just lager and bottles, loads of bars,'Latin Quarter' Mex and Havanna seem to be popular.
RE: Thats what I was thinkin abart Yes its fine. As I say, most of the pubs from the elephant down to the redoubt offer a good pint and are proper drinkers pubs. Also there are a good number of curry houses down there. Redoubt is the place for Timothy Taylors if youre a fan.
As a frequent Wakey reveller in my younger days... .....I was shocked at how quiet it was on new years eve! And how many of the pubs I knew have either shut or changed completely.
Great, looking forward to it! I must admit I've taken the tip from on here..could even have been you!
RE: Cheers all..looks like I'd give The Hop a look, its on the opposite side of the road to Harry's,Bollywood is decent, Redoubt too far out of main drag unless you are doing the Westgate Run and start in there.
RE: As a frequent Wakey reveller in my younger days... I suppose it depends how old you are, I first went out in Wakey in the 70's, its changed beyond recognition since then but still has a few trad pubs which can't be said of Barnsley. People seem to stay local this New Years Eve,my lads went to Ossett for some reason, they said non of their mates were going out in Wakey,I don't know why. I think its still a good night out but has got rougher over the last few years
You're probably right where exactly are Harry's and the hop? Not 100% familiar with wakey but just looking at Google Earth they are both off westgate?
The Hop, fantastic pub Went in there twice last weekend, excellent beers on, with the added bonus of lots of people drinking them! Some of the Ossett stuff is best avoided, but they do guest ales from up and down the country.
RE: You're probably right The Graziers at the bottom of market st, near Gala bingo/ post office centre. good atmosphere with no knobheads in.
RE: You're probably right Have you been in recently...O'Donohues next door is under new management, decent beer again but atmosphere not picked up yet.
RE: I guess Rooftops has shut then nt Does it still have the little dancefloors with the lights on a rope!. Got chucked out once for swinging the lights before they got lifted - thing is, I wasn't - the firedoor was open and they were swaying in the draft!
I was in Boons last night from 9pm till 10:40pm then i went to the Grand Central for a party. Was a good night, the birds at boons served me underage so pretty good
