Yes. "Not having a land-line" is always an option. Either that or yoghurt pots & bits of string. Glad to be of assistance. Yours not in sport, Stevey T.
yes Both Tiscali and Cable and wireless (Talk Talk) will provide a landline I now pay my phone line rental to Tiscali - waiting to "upgrade" to free line rental next month. No idea how good they are when things go wrong yet but they are reponsible for fixing it etc not BT
incorrect All landlines that aren't on the cable network are provided by Openreach, which is currently part of BT Group. The provision of the service on those lines might well be via different companies, but the actual infrastructure itself is all owned by Openreach. If there's a fault with your line, it's Openreach who fix it, regardless of which company you pay your phone bill to.
so i have got no phoneline at the moment BT are saying it costs £124.99 to install. I don't want to go with them because they seem to specialise in ineptitude; are my only 2 other options talktalk and tiscali? cheers.
I've Been Eaststandered Its true that the phone network is abministered by openreach but joe public has no direct contact with them They have now been structured to not give any preferential treatment to BT residential In the event of a fault you contact either BT residential if you pay line rental to BT, or Tiscali or Talk talk if you are on one of their lines they then arrange for the independent openreach engineer to fix the fault. I assume the same applies if you try and order a line from either company they may have better pricing in you commit to a tie in on the service though. Dont know for certain though.
