It's definitely gearing up for one. And, it may not be that cold either. Russia seems to be determined to show that it's a force once again and we all know America doesn't like to be seen to be backing down. I'm sure George Bush would like one last fight before he leaves office. Invariably our government will stand directly alongside the US meaning that we will almost certainly be involved. Given our proximity to Moscow, if this thing did go sour then I dread to think where any 'first-strike' could occur. I'm no expert but I am well aware of the history. My tip is that Russia, in the not too distant future, will attempt a non-nuclear "we mean business" strike somewhere. Definitely in Europe, probably Ukraine. I'm off to B&Q before it shuts - to buy the materials for my bomb shelter.
I suggest you watch 'Threads'... if you haven't already. It basically tells the story of a nuclear holocaust and the outcome is apparantly very accurate. The background will seem very familiar as it was shot in Sheffield back in 1984. Changed a bit since then but it looks pretty much as it did until the end of the 1990's. As this was a straight to TV docu-film made by the BBC it doesn't have particular Hollywood style special effects but the horror of it all still comes across. It upset so many people that it was shown once in 1984 not to be seen again until 2003. It came out on video, and later on DVD, but a lot of the more distressing stuff was removed. Wouldn't recommend it for entertainment but it's certainly very interesting and gives an insight into just what could happen. Even more disturbing that it's so close to home.
What is a cold war? opposed to a 'normal' war? Sorry if I come across as thick, just was never taught about it school.
FFS were just about to win our first game of the season against Derby and the Russians NUKE US. Oh well at least we **** Chelsea!
Cold War is basically... ...a war of words and threats made by positioning military in certain places that could be seen as hostile but is done as a show of strength to intimidate. Since the invention of nuclear weapons a cold war will generally only occur between two nuclear powers. As they realise that any military force shown by one, could see retaliation with nuclear weapons. What has stopped them until this stage is an theory named Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) which basically means that if one side sets of all it's nuclear weapons towards the enemy, they have to accept that the enemy will pick up on this and do exactly the same thing. This means that both sides (or countries) would be almost completely destroyed and no-one would win. This is why, so far, no one has pressed the red button or had any kind of actual war. Hence the term 'cold war'.
I suppose the first tems to go would be the London clubs at least. You could probably say goodbye to clubs from Birmingham, Manchester, Sheffield, Leeds, Liverpool etc as well if the nukes started to fall. No doubt the fallout would breed future mutations of footballers with four legs and wings...
the first strike will come just as a russia plain comes over the north sea and they'll be bit of it floating within seconds
another cold war!! jeez! all we got at school, frightened the living daylights out of us! when the wind blows an all that!
Yeah I had it at school as well... ...never really took it in. It's only when I look back I realise why my mother always seemed a bit worried watching the news. It was bound to come around again. Everyday it escalates, it may be 5 years before we have anything to worry about but it could easily be next week. It might just as easily blow over. God knows what Putin and Bush are thinking.
I hope it doesn't but sometimes it better to keep an eye on this sort of thing. If anything does go tits up then it'll be the ignorant and naive who suffer.
Getting me a tad worried to be honest, and I'm not for sure a worrier usually; i seem to go on the premise of whats the point? it don't get you nowhere.... But a War in the scale of what could happen Ie'' America (us) and Russia fills me with dread....
Gave me nightmares as a kid that did What a thing to show schoolchildren. Especially when recognisable landmarks like the old "eggbox" Sheffield town hall were exploding. Still, one thing we can learn from that film... probably better if you DON'T survive the initial strike. I wouldn't be buying any bomb shelters.
Lived through much of the first? cold war and the major players i.e Russia and U.S.a played a role that probably kept everyone in a state of fear? It probably could happen now as the Ruskys are ruled by people wiv money. FFS Let CHELSEA win everything or were DOOMED captain
Wont Happen, Ruskys have the upper hand at this moment in time , OIL ,GAS etc , **** ,,, Hope Irak nots the rehersal?
