He's playing Santa in a story and chrismas and elves and raindeers.
Which I'm sure will be nice

Anyway schools are saying its because of other beliefs etc etc.

I'm just concerned, next thing we know in the next 10 years we will be working Xmas and the tradition has goneir if you want time off its holidays

I mean how often do families sit hand have a Sunday dinner (I do)

I think we are losing so much.

Not quite sure what the issue is then. If you want your kid to be brought up a Christian take them to church or send them to a church school. They'll still learn all about the nativity in the community school (as they should), they're just choosing to do a school play about Father Christmas instead. I can't think of many kids who will be disappointed they don't get to play a shepherd, and those that do want to are probably religious and will do it in church any road.

We didn't do a nativity at junior school in the early 90s. I was Frosty the Snowman. It was ace.

I take it you are a regular church goer ?

If not then you will be part of the secular majority like me who view Christmas more as a festival that breaks up the tedium of a long winter. the timing and the rituals are more pagan than Christian anyway. Far too commercialised for me, but it is a nice time to get together with family and friends. The Santa and reindeer theme will probably hit home with the majority anyway.

BTW this is not a dig at those who genuine believe.

I personally think that religion and primary school should never be allowed to mix. We brainwash children with fear when they aren't at an age to understand the implications of religion. I think that teaching religious education towards the end of secondary school is acceptable, to understand the faith of others - but until that time religion should be left to families to disseminate.

Cut up all the animals so everyone got a fair share. But kept the stable, manger and Mary for himself.

Some Comrades are more important than others.

Blame the Christians - they started all this christmas malarky. Before that we just used to eat a lot, drink a lot, give gifts and generally have a right old knees up at the end of the year.
