Are we stagnating under Davey or consistently punching above our weight?

Wow - I think a lot of people have been trying to say this but when you see it in black and white then it seems Mr. Davey is doing a reasonable job.

Notice how he quotes other club wage total

    It's been on here before

I'd like to know how Sheffield Wednesday know the wage bill of every club in the Championship. To put it bluntly, they don't. It seems to me that it's ruse by Wednesday in order to placate the fans.

Apart from the fact that there is absolutely nothing to confirm the validity of those figures

I think they may know roughly but not 100%. I know that a new player used to be able to contact the PFA prior to discussing terms and the PFA would inform the player of what the highest and average wage was at the club.

    That Owls chairman

******** merchant in my ever so humble opinion. What Jay says about placating their fans.

There must be some rough basis for it though and it does paint a very telling picture

only basis as far as I can see is an assumption based on crowd size/turnover giving an idea as to the wage bill of a particular club.</p>

I'd be astounded if Barnsley in particular made it public knowledge what their wage bill is.

They show points per mn of the wage bill - that means that Wednesday's wage bill is exactly £5mn (48/9.6)

    Said the same myself

The sort of bloke I wouldn't trust as far as I could throw.

    He's at the right place.

When I listen to him it's like he's quoting from the Sean Lewis book of business.

    The point he's missing is...

...despite Wolves 'languishing' in 10th place in the Pts/Mn league table, they'll be promoted and earn **** loads of cash by getting to the Premier League. I can't see what crumb of comfort he's offering unless there's an 2008/09 Operational Efficiency Cup that I'm not aware of.

Yeah I agree and must definately be based on auumptions of squad size etc, but the figures quoted wouldn't surprise me, hence why we have to look to foreign imports

Iagree, I think (would hope) that most Reds fans appreciate that we aren't top of the money league and as such we need to be a bit circumspect in our criticism, but as Brunner states - it's a football league, not an efficiency league.

Definately. IMHO i reckon there is little between most managers. It just seems to be when everything at a club is pulling in the same direction that things seem to come together. Wednesday are a prime example because too many of their managers have been successful elsewhere to be bad managers. Its the inffrastructre thats wrong.

Redfearn says in his autobiographer that Wilson wasn't particularly a better manager than anyone else, but everything was just right at the club behind the scenes

"but everything was just right at the club behind the scenes"

But maybe Wilson played a part in making sure everything was right behind the scenes?

Definately but I think there's also wider factors too. I just think there's so many examples of managers doing well at one club and horrendously at others, and managers can't become good, then bad, then good again
