Ten men have been arrested in the North West of England after Britain's most senior counter terrorism police officer sparked a security alert.

Assistant Commissioner Bob Quick said he "deeply regretted" revealing a secret document to photographers when he arrived for a briefing at No 10.

The document, clearly marked "secret", carried an outline briefing on an ongoing counter-terrorism operation.

The ten suspects were later arrested at locations across north-west England.

    FFS AND HES ATHE TOP!!!!

Being at the top in the police

means bugger all as regards competence or intelligence.

RE: Being at the top in the police

Same in any organisation. The people at the top have been away from the sharp end so long - if they were even there at all - they are completely clueless.

No I would be quite happy to be paid the excessive wages they get with the power they have to do what is in effect a simple job.

They could treble my money and i still wouldn't do their job of work....

I've had over the years some dealings with the law, all been my fault, and mainly been dealt a fair hand from them....

simple job dealing with the drunken mess that is a weekend

in most towns, whilst not being able to touch anyone for the fear of 'violating their human rights' being despised just for being a policeman. When I was a lad if the police came to your house then you were in trouble with your parents as well. Now it's 'what's our precious little (insert chav name) done... **** off copper.</p>

You ought to consider yourself lucky that you live in a country where you can slag off the police without being taken in for 'questioning' without ahem 'disappearing'</p>

violently pushing people to the ground for walking slowly

    mowing down schoolgirls </p>

Hitting NZ citizens over the head and killing them </p>

Hillsbro Deaths in custody Framing innocents for murder </p>

    Blah blah blah </p>

The list of atrocities is endless and hardly a criminal conviction of a police officer in sight. </p>

No doubt there are good ones, but the apparant number of bad ones that go on with their business with impunity is sickening. </p>

being pelted with missiles whilst trying to save the life of the aforementioned gentleman

also whilst the policy of policing by David Duckenfield was a major contribitory factor, let's not wipe the blame from the liverpool fans who rushed the gates and helped cause the deaths of their innocent collegues who were in the ground early.</p>

    shooting dead innocent brazillians

I'd have more respect if the cnuts weeded out and publically punished their own "incompetents".

at a time when we'd just experienced the worst carnage

since the IRA.... I remember the posts on this site at the time were fairly supportive of the action. That doesn't make it right and it was a systemic breakdown in the chain of command for which some one should be accountable. On the other hand what about the female PC in bradford who was answering a call in a travel agents. The young PC killed outside the Iranian embassy in the late 70s(?) on a personal level my wife's cousin who was given a kicking just for being a policeman during the strike even though he was never involved in the policing of the strike.</p>

oh don't worry it also happens in the small private companies

dad builds up business over years, lad aquires managing directors position by sucession rather than abilty, hey ho BMWs/Mercs on the drive kids go to private school, too much private expenditure. The big idea in the office 'let's factor the company's debts' not used for company but to feed the private lifestyle. Company goes belly up with the loss of jobs for the employees who were employed in the first place by the Dad..... I've seen it so many times.</p>
