Made his debut 20 years ago today. Best centre half seen at Oakwell.

One of the very best. If Bassett had kept him I think we'd have gone up in 99/00 automatically. A lovely bloke too.

So you think he was better than David Tuttle, Kevin Austin and Keith Brown? Are you mad?

Jimmy McNulty and Jean-Yves M'Voto - the safest centre half pairing of all time.

We had Gerry and Fleming then Davis and De Zeeuw between like 90-99. Always quality in the middle during that decade.

Don't forget Adie Moses, Peter Shirtlifter, Charlie Bishop, Mal Shotton and Adie Viveash (saw him score on debut at Palace).

Evans, McCarthy, Futcher, Tiler, Taggart, Smith, Fleming, Davis, De Zeeuw. Some quality there in my first 20 years watching. Since then........

Got to agree the 15 years the other side of the millennium offered us much better centre halves than the 15 after.

He's up there with the best I've seen but I don't think he's quite as good as McCarthy or Futcher.

Viveash's goal was the only left footed header I've ever seen. Without being an amputee it would be literally impossible to be more one footed.

Bassett generally did a good job with us, but releasing Arjan must rank alongside the worst managerial decisions ever made. Especially as he tried (and failed) to replace him with Steve Chettle, David Tuttle, and Keith fking Brown. We scored for fun that year but conceded a lot as well. If we'd had one of either Arjan or Watson we'd have almost certainly gone up automatically. With both I dare say we'd have run a very good Charlton side close for the title. The thing that still riles me about that season is not that Ipswich beat us - they were an excellent side and deserved to be promoted. It's that a bang average Man City finished above us.

My all time favourite Barnsley player. Brilliant player, and fantastic career after he left us
