Love a player like him in our squad. Vastly experienced in the top 2 tiers with 23 Premier League appearances under his belt and nearly 300 Championship games. 64 caps for Iceland and captained them in a very impressive Euro campaign. Has a great fitness record appearing 40 plus times in 6 out of the last 8 seasons. At 27 the recruitment team would probably deem him too old as its unlikely we'd see a return off him but with Hammill (28), Gunnarsson (27) and if we could bring in a player like Kevin Long (26 in August) I think we'd look really strong with a squad of a further 20 18-25 year olds looking to establish themselves. He's contracted with Cardiff until 2018 but dropped out of the side towards the end of last season so I'm not sure whether he'd be available or not or what his wage demands would be. If not I think it's crucial we bring in a player of similar calibre and experience to aid our young recruitment drive in what will be a very testing/difficult season. Not to mention his long throws are lethal too.
Great shout but think his wage demands would be too much for us and with a new manager at Cardiff he'll most likely want to stay there to get back into the starting XI.
Forget about it. Robson-Kanu has now got Leicester interested in him. Shows what playing well can do for you.
http://www.cardiffcityforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=174491 Sounds like a lot of Cardiff fans are jumping back on the Gunnarsson band wagon after probably not being too fussed about him being out of the team last season. Like you say under Slade he would probably have been available for a club who could afford him however the new gaffer may want to keep him around. I think he'd be a great signing for any lower end Championship side looking for a midfield general.
I wouldn't expect to sign him to I'd like us to be in for at least one player of that calibre. When you have a genuine Championship quality player, such as Adam Hammill, it makes a huge difference. The effectiveness in their play stands out a mile.
Not really he's an established Championship player. Yes players can raise their game in an International tournament but he's far more established than anything we currently have and he's in his prime.
What are you talking about? I just disagree. He's not an unheard of player is he. He's established in the Championship. We wont sign him. We're probably not even interested. But we could do with a player of that kind of calibre and off the top off my head I cant think of many others who may be available.
http://bbs.barnsleyfc.org.uk/showthread.php?t=245752 Not as long as I thought it was. Okay so I gave my opinion on this the other day then Gunnarson just doesn't fit with our profile. And he'd be too expensive in my opinion. The one I'd have thought we might have a chance with is Gudmundsson. However he signed a new 4 year deal with Charlton at Christmas. Your logic then sees Nyatanga starting for us at centre half this season based on him being far more established in the second tier, the fact he's in his prime and has played lots of international football for Wales.
What a ridiculous statement. Nyatanga hasn't had a solid season in the Championship for years. He hasnt played for Wales since 2011. He failed to break back into our side after a number of dreadful performances. How does the same logic in anyway apply?
I think it's just the hype of the tournament to be honest. Every time I've seen him he's never had much end product. But I agree in a sense, someone with experience in this division but still fairly young would be useful but I am okay with hungry players who want to prove themselves in the championship.
I'm happy with that too. But I do know if that for the last god knows how many years we've been scrambling for expereinced loan players around November time. Last season it took bringing 3 more experienced players to come in to kick start our season. Players who'd barely kicked a ball all season. In League One you can get away with that. However in the Championship I'd prefer to have the experienced players in and playing so we're not scrambling for them in November. Plus isn't there a new loan system this year which stops emergency loans? I havent read up on that yet so I'm not entirely sure of the new rules.
You suggested Gunnarsson would be ideal for us based on him being "far more established than anything we currently have and he's in his prime". I'm assuming you're referring to our other central midfielders? Your logic does then see Nyatanga ahead of Mawson and Roberts. Ridiculous? Yep, I agree.
