RE: 'The price of Coal' Is Mark Hodkinson the bloke who wrote "A year at the top"? Without pining for pits it is sad that there's not much to differentiate Barnsley from other places now.
RE: 'The price of Coal' It is indeed, captures that time perfectly. Getting back to Dillinger's point, there seems a distasteful rush to obliterate any connection to the past in Barnsley at the moment. Let's get a halo up whilst the remainder of the town looks like a war zone.
RE: 'The price of Coal' It's noy just Barnsley, it's anywhere where an industry created a community. The warehouses/call centres etc, whilst welcome for the jobs they brought certainly don't give the place an identifiable spirit, which is a shame.
so in summary I've not read it properly or taken anything in but.. would I be right in saying that everyone's well happy that the pits were closed, they're much better off, but they don't like big conifers?

Proud of my roots "Town full of pakis". oh yes, how proud I feel to 'belong' to a town where that kind of neanderthol thinking still manifests itself at a football match.
Club not doing enough FACT. stewards shouldve been on red alert against Bradford, looking for them and kicking them out. I take it not one ejection was made. Yours, Ashamed of Barnsley.
RE: So "Church Lite" hasn't worked then???? Suppose not. As good an advert for retrospective abortions as you're likely to see.
