.... a council gritter in action, or heard the sound of salt/grit under their vehicle whilst driving?

The road across Darton to Haigh roundabout, notorious for humps, steep hills, drops and bends was well lairy before dawn today, and although managing to hold it, you got the impression that one false move........

No gritters over Østbyhøgda where i'm from

    Currently in Oslo

Not sure of the temp last night - BBC website said -13 - it was certainly cold but it didn't feel that cold - maybe it was just the wind factor, or lack of wind factor.

Traffic runs lick clockwork round here from what I've seen. Funny that.

Easy way to stop getting cold...wear thermal clothing! Can get a full thermal suit i.e. shirt, trousers, socks, gloves for at least a tenner...it's not rocket science.

aye, wearing thermal gloves will stop your car from skidding on ice

being able to drive properly will stop your car from skidding on ice.

but, I wasn't on about anything to do with driving in ice with the thermals.

Try putting your tyre pressures down by about 6psi. And you will see a noticeable difference in how easy it is to ride on ice, and in conditions like snow.

Why no one does this ceases to amaze me...it takes 5 minutes to do and will give you a lot more grip. Then once the ice etc. has gone then pump them back up!

It's not me I'm worried about mate

It's the lorries and the speeding cars heading down the incline and holding it on the bend at the bottom, just as I am about to enter the bend at the opposite end.

Just a bit of useful info most of the country could take on board to make the roads safer in these conditions.

That dear sir is a load of crap.

You have to have a higher pressure in your tyres! Cold weather makes the air in your tyres lose pressure. Try rubbing grit into them instead! Gives grip, for a while! Otherwise just learn how to drive on snow/ice.

Errr no, I'm not on about in "cold" weather, I'm on about in ice and snow! You put your tyre pressures down for more grip.

If it's simply cold then leave your tyre pressures at the right spec.

So, that dear Sir is actually a fact. But don't let that stop you.

Isn't it cold when it's icy or has been snowing dear sir?

More grip, you're more likely to lose control that way dear sir.

    RE: Errm

You're really not Dear Sir. By putting your tyre pressures down you have more grip due to having a larger surface of tread pattern to the road.

And yes, it should be cold when it's icy/snowing.

Maybe you should try it...and prove me right!

I drive on more ice and snow in a week than you'll ever do in a lifetime, dear sir!

Keep the pressure up, not down!
