So bear in mind we are in the position that promotion to the Premiership is a possiblity. and their contribution could be vital. Premiership Football has a multi million pound price tag on it so whats to stop Mr Shepherd putting a 5 million pound price tag on all three ????
We all know contracts aren't worth the paper they are printed on! Somebody offers cash they go - we aren't in a position to turn down decent money. Can't risk hanging onto them and losing them for nothing . Would be gutted if any of the three left - then again that's life as a Barnsley fan or any lower league club - any decent player and they are gone - David Hirst, Larry May , Mick Mccarthy, Neil Redfearn, David Geddis - the list goes on and on! </p>
RE: We all know contracts aren't worth the paper they are printed on! "Somebody offers cash they go - we aren't in a position to turn down decent money!" So they are worth the paper they are printed on then! i.e. it allows us to command a decent fee. That's the point, we can prevent them leaving but every player has their price.
Just my point They are a valuable asset to promotion and we should ensure that the clubs that offer the money are 'put off' by the large price tag. after all its not a large price when we think what Premiership football would earn 25million at least.
I suppose the alternative way to look at it is... If Barnsley had £15M in the bank, would you like them to buy Howard, Muller and Souza for £5M* apiece so they could try for the Premiership? This is the big money gamble that you're talking about. *Assuming they really would attract this sort of price. This simplistic view also ignores all the other factors that determine a transfer but you see the point.
