https://www.barnsleychronicle.com/a...qYx8D2nLpfEDJC_1zmohOvlEr0SlW-SrBJi840njwIqWM About as damning as you could expect him to be on the two players that came on in midfield without naming them. Also takes responsibility for it himself. I don’t think he’s a good coach, I certainly don’t think he’s inspiring. But there’s little wrong with this interview.
Because God forbid there’s ever an interview these days that doesn’t get pulled to pieces, line by line.
I'm not Asbaghi's biggest fan, to put it mildly, but that seems to be a decent interview with nothing to object to.
Good interview, and it’s good that he’s taken responsibility. While I think he is over cautious at times, I do have some sympathy for him. He took over a team with zero confidence, zero organisation and zero midfielders. Once Quina and Bassi came in he was able to come up with a formation and plan that works. But just no depth. He would’ve loved to have had Styles, Woodrow and Williams available yesterday. Iseka and Adeboyejo would’ve improved the bench as well. It’s a good point he makes about the fact that it’s a theme with subs letting the side down when they come on suggesting there’s a deeper problem than the individuals. Hopefully he has a plan for getting them better prepared for coming on and getting the pace of the game. Because we’re going to need more than 11 or 12 players available if we’re to have a chance. He’s solved a number of problems that Schopp either failed to solve, or directly caused. Hopefully he can solve this one.
Although the substitutes have cost us four points in the last two games and weakened the possibility of us staying up, as I posted on another thread yesterday, we have conceded far too many in the last twenty minutes throughout the season. However, what this sometimes hides is how pathetic we have been at scoring all season. Many of these late goals would not be an issue, if we would have converted more of our earlier chances. The most we've scored for a long time was three against Middlesbrough. and we nearly let that one slip.
Only objection is why keep persisting with bringing the same players on and getting the same result. Why not bring Halme and Hondermarck on instead of the chuckle brothers impersonators Benson and Palmer. Benson hasn't had a good game all season and Palmer hasn't since the beginning of September yet both get on in front of the other two every week.
After Halme’s performance against Huddersfield he would be absolutely crucified if he made that change and he equally went wrong. He should be able to trust Benson and Palmer to see out the job for 15/20 minutes. Hondermarck is also at the point now of ‘could it be any worse’. But again, when you’re not asking players to come on and impact the game attacking wise both of those brought on should be capable. It was very, very poor individual performances off the bench again.
He’s referencing the earlier pull on Morris before the ball gets to the box. Basically saying if given the choice he’d have took the free kick and the red card over the penalty.
Should be but haven't been consistently and yet they keep getting put on or even started. When you keep doing the same thing and getting the same result surely to God it eventually sinks in and you try something different.
Agree to an extent. But the more time you get to spend with the players the more you think they’re listening to your instructions. Especially when you’ve had an upturn in form and performances. It wasn’t Benson or Palmer that messed up for the Stoke equaliser so it isn’t like it’s those two in particular that have contributed in back to back games.
They may not "mess up" every week but their contribution to the team when on the field is negligible they are passengers and we can't afford passengers we need 100% from each player every week. If I were a betting man I'd put money on that Palmer is just marking time before leaving on a free in the summer having already sorted a deal somewhere else and Benson just isn't up to the standard required at the minute and isn't really showing signs that he will ever be.
