presently he is managing in Scotland, arguably maybe not as a high standard as the English leagues. However he is still managing in the top league in Scotland. The team he is in charge of is presently 2nd in the SPL, if they remain there that takes them into European football next term. They are also in the running to reach a Scottish Cup Final and glory of silverware. All this under Mr Butchers guidance. If this comes to fruition he becomes a legend at Inverness Caley Thistle, even if he falls a little short in one or the other he still will be a legend for them.I lived in the Inverness area for over 12 years when in the RAF, I witnessed the amalgamation of Inverness Caledonian and Inverness Thistle of the Highland league. Believe me now when I tell you that the rivalry/pride across the city of Inverness was as high as it is between the people of Sheffield, Manchester,Liverpool, Bristol. It was tangible. The highland league is perhaps the Scots version of our conference. When the finally merged they went into the Scots 3rd ...they were there for ages. they have now eventully got to the top tier, they drpped back, they got back. BUT this is the thing, under Mr Butcher they are enjoying their very best ever success. My question is this, why would he walk away from such a success story to come to us in the position we are currently in. I would be happy if he does come, but again he has the opportunity of a cup and european football... its a very huge ask for me.

    well to be honest no

as I said I was up there in the RAF 12 years , totally loved it.Only reason I moved was because I had a far better job offer financially. But am still keeping a property up there and may go back in the not too distant future to retire finally.

it's not that simple. if terry butcher is an ambitious manager, he will be thinking longer term. his chances of moving to a genuinely bigger Championship/PL Club are much better, through success in the Championship. any decision to take the job, will probably be more founded in his next job.

    Unfinished business.

He's been deemed to be a failure as a manager in England due to his record to date. It provides him with another chance to put the record straight.

Fairish question. But their position owes a bit to Rangers' self-destruction, surely? I note their crowds are in the order of 4,000, apart from Ross County, which I assume to be some sort of local derby? Ours are double that (although Numpty was doing his best to halve them) although I'd admit we probably generate less atmosphere.

I think the only construction you can put on it is that The Don must be indicating a bit higher level of ambition for us than we seem to have settled for in recent times. Otherwise, TB would surely have already done a SOD, and been wishing us well for the future. I hope we have now decided to be ambitious for the higher gifts!

I doubt that's the reason he'd come here

We're hardly money bags. He may get paid more here, but I doubt it would be a lot more.

If he does decide to join Barnsley it will be for the sake of his career. Do well at Inverness and you get teams like Barnsley after you. Do well at Barnsley and you can get some really big clubs wanting to sign you. English football is much higher profile than Scottish (Celtic and Rangers apart). If Terry Butcher does well for us a lot of influential people will take notice and his prospects of managing a big become a lot better.

I hear what you say , but consider this too

lets just assume ITC finish 2nd and get into European football. Now I will not be daft enough to say they will win any cups in Europe..but just say they have a half decent run. Now the european clubs may look at Mr Butcher and think WAHEY good man.. Many a good British manager did nowt in England for ages then they went overseas and they blossomed. Sir Bobby Robson for one and our present England Manager too.Mr Butcher if he has any sense will be considering this, I certainly would. Some say its all about money, to be honest If you really wanna get to the top then it is certainly not all about money at all..its all about knowledge and success. Show that on a CV and BOOYAH you go places.Trust me.

Re: ask yourselves this question about Mr Butcher, see if you come to what I am think

If he wants the easy life he will stay in Scotland. If he wants to challenge himself nd prove hes got what it takes to succeed in England he will come. Theres also probably more money on offer.

Why did JOB move here from Motherwell where he was on one of the leagues better players. That Guy who as just signed for the Blades was playing against Celtic in the top division in Scotland one weekend and moved to the English 3rd tier the next.... WHY??

    lol

you obviously have no idea about Scotland Glyn.

It can be severe at times, but I guess it depends on the person. My time in the forces means extreme weather conditions from both extremes mean little. But tranquility and quality mean much much more.

Spent a few days in the Highlands this year, stayed over in Inverness. Wonderful part of the world. The train journey from Inverness up to Thurso is spectacular, all huge landscapes and no one to be seen virtually all the way. I can see why TB may refuse, but we will undoubtedly be able to offer more dosh. Even on our declining attendances.

Re: I hear what you say , but consider this too

    Really??

"Robson led Ipswich to fourth place in the First Division and success in the Texaco Cup in the 1972–73 season. In the following nine seasons, Ipswich finished lower than sixth place in the First Division only once, in the 1977–78 season. However, that season was a success with a 1–0 victory over Arsenal in the FA Cup Final. His reign at Ipswich lasted 13 years, during which time the club twice finished as League runners-up, and made regular appearances in European competitions, capturing the UEFA Cup in 1981 with a 5–4 aggregate victory"

    Aye, you were right. Nowt.
