What on earth is your problem

Cycling is a proper sport - one that we happen to be good at so I just dont get your view at all.

    LOL

If the man in the computerised car or the moody Scot had won it, we would have to rename the award the "Sports Of The Year Award".

he is right about hamilton though

yes he beat 20 or so other people over the course of the year, but formula one has become so much about who has the best car that I think to give sports personality of the year award to somebody who won a competition on an uneven playing field would be very unfair.

Formula one needs a radical overhaul before it dies off

Did McClaren have the best car though?

or just the best driver? The thing about the cyclists is the funding they receive from the lottery and government grants means they are so far ahead of the world, its embarrassing. Not saying Hoy isnt dedicated or good at what he does, just that given what Hamilton achieved, over half a year, his age and the abilities and experience of other competitors and teams, by rights, he shouldve won. He came second last year for not winning, how does that work? But it was a phone vote and if there's a Scot in with a chance, they text like BillyO.

First Scot to win since Liz McColgan in 1991 and first to finish in top three since Colin McCrae in 1995

    Good logic

    Yeah

What a bugger that, for a change, Britain manages to give an edge to their competitors by giving adequate funding for facilities and equipment - we should be bloody ashamed of ourselves!

    Not knocking it

just saying in my opinion the award should be judged in terms of ability against that of your fellow competitors in the same field. Without the funding, without the technical advancement in equipment, would Britain have wiped the floor with everyone at the Olympics?
