At least we can't be affected by the curse of the manager of the month

Perfectly - factor in the new manager bounce and we're nailed on for the play-offs as well

Would you go if you were in Lee Johnson's position? There's the fact that he played there for 6 years which comes in to the equation, and money talks, so if Bristol offer him significantly more than he's on here then that will probably seal it, but if it was purely down to football reasons, I don't think I'd go.

The two clubs are of a similar size. Bristol City averaged 3,000 more fans than us last season, but as they won the league at a canter and we spent the majority of the season bobbing about in midtable, that doesn't surprise. I could easily see us averaging 12,500 if we only lost 5 matches all season. I believe their chairman is willing to invest, but Patrick Cryne hasn't been shy about putting money in to our club.

If he stays here, he's already assured of one trip to Wembley and if I had Adam Hammill, Conor Hourihane and Sam Winnall in my team and they were only 5 points from the play-offs, I'd fancy our chances of another trip to London. Win the JPT and get us promoted and there will be a lot bigger and better teams than Bristol City interested in Johnson. Bristol are in a proper relegation fight. If he's been brought in to keep them up and he fails, he may be out of a job in the summer. Even if he keeps his job, he'll be under tremendous pressure to win promotion back to the Championship. If they're not in the top 6 by Christmas he'll be done. And there'll not be many big clubs looking at him once he's got that relegation on his CV.

If I was Johnson my first question would be:

"What would you do if we go on a losing run, back me or sack me?"

    Followed by:

"If I implement the board's strategy and it proves flawed would you give me an opportunity to take forward the revised strategy?"

    Then drive back to Oakwell.

Unless they are offering daft money I'd stay

There's got to be an emotional connection though, all those years as a player there and his dad having been successful as manager. I'm guessing friends, family in that part of the world too

I was one of those who never wanted him to leave, even during the bad run.

I like the guy. There not many managers I can listen to, but he comes across well.

If he does go, I know it's sour grapes, but I hope we pass Bristol City at the end of the season as we swap leagues.

Reading the Bristol forums, though, the feeling seems to be that nobody liked him as a player there, despite the obvious love for Johnson Snr.

I can see that - is he a Bristol lad then ?

Their fans don't seem fond though - either player or potential boss

Ah right. Dad thing though, must be like Clough at Derby. Don't think they'd have gone for Niger if he wasn't Brian's son

I seem to remember him saying in an interview he wasn't that popular there as a lot if fans thought he was only playing cos his dad was manager

Might be in our favour. I'm sure their fan base are as impatient as ours so if you're not popular to start with you could be knackered from the off

He's a very self confident guy though. Would back himself to win fans round

    Genius

What if we don't appoint until May and the bounce is during the close season ?
