I didn't think Doncaster were as bad as everyone is making out. I thought when they had it they were neat and tidy and I enjoyed watching Wellens in midfield. But if we create the chances we did and don't score then we'll probably get relegated. I know Nudger's lost it (he was giving out about Pedersen all match) but I guarantee if any of those chances fall to him we win. Positives: We kept a clean sheet Big John had his best game (to the best fan in the World who decided to have a go at me because I was taking the piss when he went on that run - you silly *******) We created chances. Negatives We don't look like a team. Our tactic is 'give it to Paddy' Cywka needs more minutes Perkins/Fox are too similar in midfield Anyroad, if we are going to stay up we have to beat teams around us at home. On current form we're not going to. And cheers to everyone that took pity and bought a fanzine while I was stood getting pissed wet through before the match. Still some left so I'll be flogging at next home game. Nice to meet a few folk off here - Revvie, ryhill and The Full Ponty is almost normal. The weird f.cker.
A big praise to all the WSB contributors You're doing a terrific job and I just wanted to let you all know how much I appreciate & enjoy it. As for YOU, sir, are you really prepared to take me on in a lying on the settee competition? Really? REALLY? Once again, mate, terrific job with the WSB and it was good to see you.
Re: A big praise to all the WSB contributors it all went fcukin pear shaped, when we decided to switch to an immovable 4-4-2. i've seen little of evidence of even a hint of switching formation. i'd look closely at the situation after the christmas fixtures. for me, that's effectively a year in the job. as it stands, i do believe we are actually gradually improving. but it's very slow progress, and may not be enough.
It's such a thin line. We played poorly but still we could have had 3 or 4 goals from easy chances. If we'd have won 3 - 0, which could easily have happened, I bet people would not be saying how bad we played. Such a thin line.
I think if we'd scored 3 or 4 and won then the reaction would've different but there'd still be an undertone of disappointment in the performance level. Yesterday I heard a lot of comments about playing badly but winning and how we need to grind points out right now and it's true a win is a win regardless of style. But we're not winning and we haven't a consistent run of wins for a while. It has to change and quickly or we're going to be in the same situation as last season and I don't see us making the great escape for a second time.
I think the problem is that we can't get it right at both ends of the pitch in the same game. If we play well up front we concede too many, if we play well at the back (like yesterday) we can't score (like yesterday). Clean sheet is a positive but against a side as poor as Donny it's only a small positive. Another small positive is that there are plenty of other teams equally crap. Even after 15 games and only 2 wins we're still in touch and a single win would take us out of the bottom 3. And watch out for Blackburn, my tip for the slide. They're skint, will have to sell players in January and could end up with a 10 point penalty. Still think we'll survive, just.
Add Blues to that, for very similar reasons. I suspect at least one of Birmingham, Middlesbrough and Blackburn will go down, mostly because if one of them goes on a really bad run it's going to be a lot more difficult for them to pull it back than it would for, say, Yeovil (or us). I agree with you completely that it was such a fine line yesterday. I'm just going on the highlights on the football league show, which I know doesn't tell the whole story, but from that it looked to me like we had a few good chances and could easily have got a couple. No doubt if we'd scored one of them we might have started playing with a bit more confidence and putting some good play together. For me the biggest disappointment of the afternoon was that substitution. Flitcroft doesn't help himself with moves like that. I'm a big fan of Cywka and I know other aren't, but he can score from anywhere when he's on form and we needed that extra bit of pressure from outside the box yesterday, especially when they started playing for the draw.
On that reckoning then - do you think we could stay up on 42 points? Because i we simply didn't lose the next 31 games, at best we could get is another 31 points which would take us to 42 points. However i also cant see us not losing to the end of the season so we wouldn't make that figure. Silly stats but yesterday was a must win game in my eyes. Donny are going to be in or around the relegation spots this season and we needed those 3 points.
Re: At least we didn't lose - against the worst side seen at Oakwell this year with all due respect to drfc1. Them and us are down, unless something alters sharpish. Think complacency has set in because we've gone 4 undefeated - well unless we get some energy and creative quality into the middle of the park then this is our year for the drop. We can't keep waiting for things to 'click' or 'fall into place'. A half decent side would have walloped both Donny and us yesterday if they'd been playing either of us. We are pedestrian, laboured and void of ideas other than launch it to CoG or give it to Paddy. Hope I'm wrong but cannot see us getting out of the bottom 3. Us, Yeovil, Millwall, Donny and Wednesday in a mini league of crap.
What about the free headers which they put over the bar or wide or the times when they queued up on the edge of the box and then smashed it high into the stand? Or the time their player hit one straight across the goal and out of play instead of into the back of the net?
You must have been at a different game to me. Our 4 best chances were way better than any chances they had.
I never said they weren't. Ours were by far the easier chances, I merely said that they too missed a few easy chances so whilst we can rightfully say 'we could have had 3 or 4' it is also only fair to say that so could they.
I really don't think they did have any easy chances though. Not one where I thought they 'should' have scored.
