Butterfield is leaving for nowt (apart from tribunal fee) and the power is all in his and his agents hands for one reason and one reason only. BFC's refusal to offer a contract before it was too late.
Kind of agree. But no one knew what level of impact he was going to have last pre-season, so I can understand the reluctance to offer him a deal then.
I will be glad when its all done one way or another. so we can get on with things. If he goes then thats our loss,I guess.Just hope we get some decent coin for him in whatever way.If he stays then we are fortunate to have a bright prospect. But I will be happy when it all over.
Re: I got my house for nowt in 1983 Get back to your evening with hassell thread you, you're not welcome here
To be honest I think that people did know he was a good player. Didn't he run the show for us on sky under ritchie or have I imagined that? If I recall correctly (which I might not) then didn't a lot of people rate him last season (ie ritchie season) and say that he was going to be a brilliant player for us. A lot were calling for him to play more games and slating the manager for picking others ahead of him. I know some didn't rate him and some said he wasn't fit enough to start games but we all knew he had great potential and he was getting better and better even if he wasn't brilliant at the time. I just can't understand why you wouldn't even attempt to tie down an asset that has shown a lot of promise, has a lot of life left in it and it only going to improve. It just annoys me that I hear people (including the club) say that in order to survive we have to find raw talent, develop it and then sell for a profit yet those at board level seem to be doing their level best to ensure that any money we get from selling them is the absolute lowest possible. Just think if one of the many players (Hammill, Shackell, Howard, Butterfield, Vaz Te, McIndoe etc) had been sold for their true worth we might not have had to sell the rest of them as well.
Re: Sorry mate norwich have given Korey smith a 1 year extension. He was poor for us after the first game. Yet they see fit to extend his contract. BFC should hav eat least offered Butters a 1 year extension at the start of last season
Re: ..its bedtime. My original post was actually supposed to be a reply to someone saying that him and his agent had shafted us. In reality they haven't, all that's happened is that we didn't show him much loyalty (thats football) and he hasn't shown us any (again that's football). It does frustrate me a little when people always talk about players showing no loyalty but they quickly forget that clubs show next to none to players either. Look at Devaney, he gave everything for this club and was just cast aside and there are many many examples of that up and down the country. We're certainly not unusual in doing it, they all do it but that for some reason is ok but when a player does it theyre scum.
Oops. I had Robins in my head but Ritchie in my fingers. No Idea how I made that epically bad mistake.
Subbed him quite a bit up to him scoring against Leicester and that was the game for me that seemed to instill some belief in the team as a whole that they could compete in the Championship. That game was the start of the good run IMO performance wise.
Personally, I thought the turning point was Reading away. The two penalty saves, Jacob's assists for Foster and Done, and our first victory. I think the club gained a lot of belief that day, after a very worrying start. And I agree with SuperTyke. As I've said umpteen times, the lad would have signed a contract extension last summer and only an imbecile would suggest he wasn't worth a new deal at that point. Especially when you consider the club gave Scott Wiseman a 3 year deal, and a years extension to David Preece... There's little loyalty in football, but I wish Jacob good luck should he move tomorrow.
